Tampa Bay Times: Curbside recycling kicks off in St. Pete  

 

Universal curbside recycling debuted to cheers on one side of the city Monday and complaints on the other.

 

Mayor Rick Kriseman began the program in the Old Southeast, watching as a new truck pulled over, extended a mechanical arm and plucked a blue bin from the curb like a crab snapping its claw. Residents applauded when a small load of recyclables tumbled from the bin into the truck.

MyFOX Tampa Bay: Curbside recycling kicks off in St. Pete  

 

A new recycling  program is rolling out to the curbs of St. Petersburg.
 

More than 77,000 residents received 95-gallon blue bins over the last few weeks, encouraging them to recycle glass, paper and plastic among other items.

St. Petersburg Tribune: Curbside recycling finally gets off the ground in St. Pete   

 

Mayor Rick Kriseman, flanked by city staff and officials, stood on the front lawn of a home in the Old Southeast neighborhood Monday morning, watching and waiting.

 

At just about 10 a.m., a 37-cubic-yard garbage truck lumbered down 19th Avenue SE, stopped in front of the home, scooped up a big blue container full of recyclables and dumped it into the truck.

Craft beer places in the Tampa Bay area - and across Florida - are now allowed to sell growlers - 64-ounce beers. "It's a nice way to split it with a couple of friends and have a good time," St. Pete Brewing Company customer Jennifer said.

The Weekly Challenger: NBA champion Marreese Speights back in Childs Park    

 

As the six o'clock start time approached, the event celebrating world champion Marreese Speights of the Golden State Warriors would have been a sellout had admission been required. Cars lined the streets surrounding Childs Park Recreation Center, the place where it all started for Speights. The standing-room-only crowd showed support and welcomed home St. Petersburg's latest favorite son.
