It is finally summer and hopefully everyone has their flowers planted and are ready to enjoy some sunny warm days!

We have been busy at Pets Are Inn as well.  We have two new staff members that you may have met or talked with.  Sarah Anderson is working in the office taking reservations and ensuring that we have the most up to date info on your furry child.  Louis Hoffman is our newest pet chauffeur.  He is involved with transporting your pet to and from the host family.  Be sure to welcome them to the  team!

Many of you are busy planning your summer vacations and Fourth of July plans...remember your furry child and book early to reserve your favorite home for her to stay in so she receives lots of cuddles and attention.

Thanks,  Ann

Educate Yourself About
The Canine Flu
As many of you already know, the Canine Flu has reached Minnesota. What does that mean? It means it's time for you to educate yourself on the virus if you have not already, and that you should start to take steps to ensure your pet's safety.

Canine Flu is similar to the human flu in the symptoms and how it spreads. Canine flu, like Bordatella (kennel cough), can be spread by sneezing, barking, coughing, or by exposure to contaminated objects like bowls and cages. Lower your dog's risk of infection by reducing her contact with other dogs, which can be done by avoiding dog parks, doggy day care, and boarding at kennels.

The symptoms of Canine Flu include coughing, excessive panting, exercise intolerance, nasal discharge, loss of appetite, laziness, fever, and difficulty breathing. If your dog shows any of these signs, make sure not to bring her to any area where she can infect dogs (dog parks, doggy day care, etc). Next, contact your veterinarian immediately. Try and make the appointment later in the day and go to the examination room immediately to reduce the risk of exposing other dogs in the waiting room.

Tips to Help Dogs & Cats
Cope with Their  Thunderstorm Fears

Is your dog afraid of thunderstorms or loud noises? Does he cower under a coffee table? Does she tremble?

Now is the perfect time to prepare and help your pet with these frightening experiences. Some cats are afraid of storms or loud noises. Remember your dog or cat will feel the barometric changes hours before you notice the storm clouds.     Read more at our blog
Max
Max's helpful hint:

It is summer and I love to go for nice long walks.  My family sometimes gets frustrated when I walk as I like to lead!  There is a really easy way to train me not to pull.  When I start pulling you should do a 180 turn and start walking the opposite direction so I'm now following vs leading.  Continue to do this and I will get the message that we are basically going nowhere and I walk nicely at your side.
