On Sunday October 4th, families and individuals living with PI gathered in a studio in Mississauga to create Immunodeficiency Canada's first video of the 10 Warning Signs of PI, produced and directed by The Blend Media Group. I was truly honoured to see families with little ones as young as two and individuals now in their sixties coming together for the common purpose of helping others born with a Primary Immunodeficiency. We thank everyone for their time and important contribution to this education effort. The coordination of so many individuals couldn't have happened without the assistance of Brenda Reid. We look forward to launching the 10 Warning Signs of PI video soon, watch our social media for more information.
On October 22, 2015 Immunodeficiency Canada is hosting the third SCID symposium in conjunction with the CSACI Scientific meeting. Along with our Chair and Scientific Director, Dr Chaim Roifman, I look forward to seeing some of our network physicians there. It's going to be a great session.
With some new part-time team members, Karthika Yoganathan (Admin to Scientific Programs), Dana Ewachow (Social Media), Abigail Krogman and Nico Meffe on fundraising, we are ready for the busy fall/winter season described below.

Free Subscription to LymphoSign Journal

Funding Opportunities
Canadian Rare Diseases Models and Mechanisms (RDMM) - Catalyst Grant
A maximum of $25,000 will be awarded for each Catalyst grant. Model organism investigators are expected to provide evidence that they/their lab is set up to do the work proposed in a timely fashion. Where the budget for the proposed work exceeds the Catalyst grant of $25,000, applicants are required to describe what work the Catalyst grant funds will cover and how additional funds will be garnered.

The PI Webcast Series, previously called PI Video Conference Series, created in 2008, has proven to be a highly valuable medium to discuss difficult cases among expert physicians across the country. Immunologists across Canada, at network sites, rotate hosting video presentations in which two complex cases are presented and discussed virtually. The video conferences are a self-accredited event by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, for 1.5 hours per seminar. You can attend at one of the Network Sites or Affiliated Members, or observe through webcasting.

Bidding For Health Online Auction 
Our "Bidding for Health" 2015 auction was a great success!
From July 1 - 31, 2015 we had exciting bidding activity and each item sold to the lucky highest bidders helping us raise much needed funds. We are so appreciative for all the extra donations that were generously made at the time of checkout to help us achieve our goals. It is opportunities like this, where we and the greater community are working together to help reach the goal of finding better treatment and a cure for those with PID. 13th Annual Baden Klein Cup
On August 26, 2015, the Guelph Gryphons hosted a charity soccer game at the Gryphon Soccer Complex in Guelph. The cool weather didn't dampen the spirits of the men's and ladies' teams, who played against the Ryerson Rams. The games were nail-biting. The amazed crowd supported both teams.
As the game played out on the field, the Klein family hosted a BBQ and a raffle, where all proceeds were donated to Immunodeficiency Canada. Thank you to all the companies that donated raffle items:

Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon
The annual Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon is on October 18, 2015 and the Immunodeficiency Canada team is ready.
This year all proceeds raised will go to the Alastair Fund, created in 2004 in memory of Alastair Mackay who fought a valiant battle with his cancer. The Alastair Fund provides funding to families dealing with financial strain due to illness from PI. It is available to families with a child registered as a patient at Toronto Sick Children's Hospital, Montreal Children's Hospital, Alberta's Children's Hospital, IWK Health Centre or British Columbia Children's Hospital. Families can access financial assistance for transportation, overnight stays, food, parking and other critical needs.
A strong team of 18 individuals, in counting, are busy training and raising funds for Immunodeficiency Canada.

Families having financial difficulties should talk to the Hospital Social Worker Department to access this fund.
