ROADS! The House voted to raise our taxes a little, to repair our roads.
The Senate is just about ready to raise our taxes (or will they call it a users fee?) a lot, in order to repair our roads.
They don't get it and they didn't listen to 84% of Michigan voters who screamed "Hell No!" on Proposal One! Building and maintaining the Roads is one of the three responsibilities defined in our State's Constitution that the legislature MUST fund. Everything else is funded only if the citizens agree to give them more money in taxes to do other things. "Other things" would be funding Medicaid, subsidizing the film industry, marketing Michigan through the Pure Michigan Campaign and on and on. They have enough taxes to repair the roads!

Is there an Emmet County Roads Commissioner? No. There are three.
Are they elected by Emmet County voters? No. They are appointed by the Emmet County Commissioners.
Do the Emmet County Commission
ers oversee the three Road Commissioners? No.
Do the Emmet County Commissioners develop or approve the Road Commission's budget? No.
Are County taxes used to fund any part of Emmet County's roads? No.

Brian Gutowski, an officer and engineer/manager of the Emmet County Road Commission will attempt to answer all of your questions.

OR you can attend our December 7th General Meeting and I will summarize the two resolutions and emphasize some of the consequences to our Country and to you personally, if they succeed in accomplishing their goals.
Remember that voting on Election Day is only one way to help bring stability to our Nation. Volunteering next year to help with the election process is an even more critical way. We need to educate our citizens about issues and candidates. This cannot be done effectively without many people working many hours. In January, we will give you a list of ways in which you can contribute your talents.
