Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I am writing to ask you to please consider a year-end gift to the Queen Anne Helpline.

Our work has never been more important. Homelessness has reached a crisis point in our city. In fact it is so severe that just last month city officials took the unprecedented action of declaring a state of emergency for homelessness. Queen Anne Helpline plays a critical role in this crisis by providing a safety net to prevent people from becoming homeless in the first place. Because of your support, we are part of the solution. Last year we prevented 550 families, seniors, and individuals -- our neighbors -- from being evicted. We also moved 76 people into stable housing, including 49 children. Families like Luke, Stacy, and their three young children. When Stacy got seriously ill Luke was forced to cut back his hours to help and they eventually lost their home. In time they got back on their feet but were struggling to come up with the deposit for an apartment. Our move-in assistance helped them secure their new home, and last week they all celebrated Thanksgiving together. YOU made this possible.

The need has never been greater and your support is more important than ever.
Compared to just one year ago:
  • 24% more people have received assistance from us, and the number of seniors we've helped has increased an alarming 45%
  • The number of kids receiving our Weekend Food bags has doubled
  • We are providing on average $4,700 more in financial assistance every month
So far we've been able to respond to this current crisis, but without your support we are concerned for the future. We can't imagine having to say no when one of our neighbors calls to ask us for help. Neighbors like Carol, who at 79 was facing a possible eviction. Or Kurt, a single dad who was recently laid off and found himself having to choose between buying food or paying his bills.

Your partnership makes our work possible. Kindly consider a year-end gift so we can continue to meet this growing need. Neighbors helping neighbors, it's what we are all about.

With heartfelt thanks,

Lisa

GIVING THANKS

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who donated, packed, and delivered over 100 bags of Thanksgiving groceries to seniors in our community -- almost double last year's number! It was an amazing volunteer effort and very much appreciated by the seniors who received the bags. You added a lot of cheer to their holiday. A huge thank you to All Saints Church, our partner in this program -- we couldn't do it without you!

We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of donations and support from so many individuals and groups recently. We especially want to acknowledge and thank the following:

  • Catharine Blaine K-8 for their food drive -- they recently delivered 26 bags of food!
  • Cherwell Software, with a big shout out to Ana, who organized a building-wide food and clothing drive
  • Coe Girl Scouts who stood in front of Trader Joe's on a cold evening soliciting food donations -- and then went shopping for more food with the cash donations
  • The many, many individuals who have stopped by with wonderful food, hygiene, linens, and clothing donations these past few weeks! You are all amazing and making such a difference for so many people. THANK YOU!!
