PARAMUS FIREFIGHTER DIES FOLLOWING RESPONSE-LODD

We regret to pass on to you that on September 23, 2015 at 1427hrs., Firefighter and Ex Fire Chief Shawn M. Benson, 50, was found unresponsive at home several hours after responding with Paramus Fire Department, Company 2, to a local restaurant for a fire alarm activation. Firefighter Shawn M. Benson  was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Chief Benson was the Paramus Police Department Communications Coordinator, an active member of the Paramus Fire Department since 1983, and served as Chief of the Fire Department in 2000. Sean worked for the Paramus Police Department since 1982, and was the Communications Specialist for the Paramus Office of Emergency Management.

The family will receive friends at Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 S. Farview Ave., Paramus, New Jersey today, September 28, 2015 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
A Fire Department service will be held on tonight at 8:00 PM at Vander Plaat Memorial Home. Visiting departments are requested to stage in the south lot of Chili's, located on the East side of the Garden State Plaza. Members will be shuttled by bus from that location to Vander Plaat Memorial Home.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM tomorrow, Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Our Lady of the Visitation Church, 234 N. Farview Ave, Paramus, New Jersey. All fire apparatus are to enter Farview Ave from Century Road and stage in the northbound lanes of Farview Ave. At the conclusion of the funeral mass, visitors will be escorted to George Washington Memorial Park to await the procession for internment.
