LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Friends,
This month of holidays always brings to mind the memories of my parents lighting our Men
orah (which I still use) every night during Chanukah. The delicious smell of latkes, the fun of having our extended family together, and the reminders of the small lessons that we learned so long ago were in a big part of my childhood. Each night, after they kindled each lichtel, my parents also presented my brother and me with a gift. Sometimes, they were small things and sometimes they were practical gifts - but we were always so happy to receive them, and my parents felt such pride and happiness when they saw us unwrapping them.
That, I believe, is one of the true reasons for gifts - it lets the people, and organizations, in our life know we are thinking about them. As we embark on our annual fund drive, let us consider giving generously to NCJW/Cleveland. Your gift helps sustain our organization so we can bring light to the community with new programs and initiatives, ensuring that
NCJW/Cleveland continues to be a driving force for social change in the city and in Israel.

READER'S THEATRE: Fourth Grade Literacy Program
Our first RT project for the year was wonderful! The next school we will work with is Warner Girls' Leadership Academy. Join us there in late January or February or at Greenview School in May.

IMAGINATION EXPRESS!
The third Tuesday of each month during the school year, a group of volunteers go to Family Promise of Greater Cleveland to work with the children for an hour. The volunteers start with song and story and often have the children act out the story or do movement activities. They follow up with an art activity and close with a snack. It is deeply satisfying to bring joy and laughter to these children whose parents are working to become self-sufficient. Family Promise of Greater Cleveland is a
transitional housing facility
for homeless families who are rebuilding their lives.
Volunteers are needed! Give it a try and you will find that the hugs, giggles, and happiness are infectious!

Women's Reproductive Justice
Infant Mortality
Did you know that the infant mortality rate in Cleveland is shockingly high? Our committee will partner with Understanding the Issues to confront Infant Mortality. Join us at our joint meeting on Dec. 3 at 9:00 a.m., at the Beachwood Library.
Stork's Nest
Volunteer the third Saturday of each month, 9 a.m. - noon, at the Storks Nest in East Cleveland at the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Center (Liberty Hill Baptist Church, 8206 Euclid Ave (Corner of E. 82nd) Cleveland OH, 44103, Second Floor Dining Area). This is a monthly prenatal health education program for low-income pregnant women and their partners. Duties include cooking breakfast, registering pregnant mothers, and helping the mothers shop for items in the store. If interested, please contact Cyndy Fellenbaum at 216-346-3159. Candidates' Night
We are partnering with the League of Women Voters to plan a Candidates' Night in the spring. Call Laura Kuntz, 216-299-4700, if you'd like to help with planning the event.
An important goal is to educate our membership on what is happening in Ohio and nationally with Reproductive Justice and health care for women. Contact Dana Trau, 216-407-5545, to investigate opportunities for possible partnerships with Planned Parenthood and NARAL.
What an exciting month our NCJW/GCC team has had! 50 people joined us at Fairmount Temple on Nov. 11 to hear Blaine Griffin, executive director of Cleveland Community Relations, speak about gun violence and how our city is being pro-active to interact with a variety of cultural groups. He educated the group with chilling statistics about suicides, domestic abuse, neighborhood issues, territorial concerns, and gun purchases.
