Introducing Development Director
Ben Harbold
We are ecstatic to add a new staff position in development - a big step for The Crossing - and that the new member of our team is    Ben Harbold. Ben brings with him a unique combination of skills and experience, having spent a number of years as a professional vocalist in the Philadelphia area before transitioning to the private sector for a successful career in marketing, business development, and strategic account management over the past 12 years. Desiring for some time to return to the performing arts space, Ben now welcomes the chance to leverage skills and experience cultivated in corporate sales on behalf of The Crossing.

Ben holds a degree in Voice Performance from Shenandoah Conservatory and completed his post-graduate studies at the Boyer School of Music and Dance at Temple University. He sang professionally with Donald and many members of The Crossing in Italy at the Spoleto Festival and in Philadelphia with the Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia and Opera Philadelphia. We are thrilled to have an advocate with such diverse skills and with a first-hand knowledge of new music for choirs. Welcome, Ben!

A busy weekend for The Crossing
Last weekend we gave two world premieres on two different programs in two different cities! We were in New York on Friday with the American Composers Orchestra for the premiere of Judd Greenstein's  My City, then on Sunday we gave the first of our "Reprise" concerts of the season in our Chestnut Hill home, featuring the premiere of Stratis Minakakis'  Crossings . Matthew Westphal of the Philadelphia Inquirer  said of the work:

"Fast-forward to the Crossing's newest commission: composer Stratis Minakakis' harrowing Crossings, inspired by the sight of thousands of desperate Syrian refugees streaming onto a Greek island. Eighteen separate voices sighed, whispered, whistled, hummed, ululated, and generally shattered a text of 20 words from T.S. Eliot's The Waste Land. It wasn't beautiful - it wasn't meant to be - but it was powerful, and it showed the astounding level of skill and commitment that Nally and his singers have reached over their decade together."
