Meaningful traditions matter for adoptive families, Pam Parish shows us how...
Personalized Christmas Ornaments - To celebrate your adoptive child's culture, bring back a handmade ornament from their country of origin next time you make a trip. Ornaments can also celebrate milestones, such as getting their braces off or making the team. Mark a "first" for your child, maybe an ornament that displays their first Christmas with your family!
Fun Traditions - For a little bonding experience, have each family member join in the decorating of your home and tree. Blare the Christmas tunes and put some cider on the stove! Another fun tradition is Elf on the Shelf, give him or her a mischievous name. Create a competition around this Elf's annual visit. Every night when he/she goes to the North Pole and "returns" they find a new place to hide, or a mess to make. The first child who finds him/her the next morning gets a point. On Christmas Eve, the child who has the most points receives an extra small gift from the Elf.
Legacy Traditions - Start the tradition of buying a story book each year for your children. They can keep these books to one day read to their own children. It's important to give children natural activities that can help solidify a "normal" childhood when they're older with their children.
