Get Out on the Water

Get out on the water is a joint initiative between Ontario Sailing & ROWONTARIO funded by the Ontario Sport and Recreation Communities Fund. Our goal is to create and rejuvenate the interest and passion in Sailing while bringing more awareness to Ontario clubs and organizations through multiple mass marketed TRY IT days and open house events scheduled throughout the 2015 season.

Get out on the water is a no cost, barrier free and safe way to introduce anybody interested in Sailing to their closest club or organization. Each club will open their doors so that the people in their community can try sailing.  Following their open house event(s), opportunities will be made available to all those participating on the next steps to staying involved within a club and learning how to sail!

More information can be found at www.getoutonthewater.ca where over 90 boating, sailing and rowing clubs are listed with their dates and times.

Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/getoutonthewater?ref=hl

or

Follow us on Twitter @getonthewaters

Most importantly, share this with everyone you know!  Let them try sailing for free!

The Oakville 24 hrs.

Are you up for the Challenge?

June 20th - 21st, 2015

Enter the Oakville 24 hours sailboat race, raising money for local sailing schools.

Not all youth are fortunate enough to have access to a competitive boat and in turn they can't continue their development in the sport. That's where you come in! Enter the event as a team, raise money from your friends, colleagues and family and help us reach our goal. This is the inaugural event and we hope to be able to repeat this every year in aid of our local sailing schools.

For 2015 we are raising funds to support the purchase of Laser dinghy's for Youth Development sailing.

Go to http://oakville24hrs.com/ for more information and entry form.

The Challenge

Form a team (minimum 3 people) and participate in a 24 hour sailboat race in Lasers (maximum total time any individual can sail will be a total of 10 hours, each shift cannot exceed 3 hours). Lots of fun, effort and camaraderie. The winning team will be the one that completes the most laps in 24 hours. Lots of other awards as well!

The Basic Information

You need a Laser (that's insured!), a minimum team of 3, enter the event and be ready on the start line on Saturday 20th June at 12pm. Entry fee $100 -team fundraising goal $500.

The Cause

Help raise money for local sailing schools. We plan to buy a Laser/s for aspiring silver/ gold sailors who need use of a competitive boat to continue their development and are unable to afford it. We aim to support the most committed and talent youth sailors in our community.

Go to http://oakville24hrs.com/ for more information and an entry form.

Don't Drink and Boat

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is a recipient of the Transport Canada Boating Safety Contribution Program.  This project will include:

  1. Installing  approximately 400 signs in Canada between 2014 and 2016 that will advise Canadians to contact 911 if they notice drinking and boating activity.
  2. Producing new English and French safe boating television public service announcements (PSAs) with an emphasis on impaired boating.
  3. Developing a questionnaire for boaters across Canada which will collect more conclusive data about boaters' attitudes and behaviours toward impaired boating and the impact of the "call 911 signs".

They have a survey they are looking for boaters to fill out.  It's 26 questions and takes about 7 minutes of your time.  There is a box for your comments as well.

The survey can be taken at www.surveymonkey.com/s/boatingsafetysurvey
