Into the Light: The Healing Art of Kalman Aron
Extended until October 18
|
Kalman Aron, Morning Light in L.A.

Two more weeks to see the
spectacular work of Kalman Aron at LAMOTH.
Born in Riga, Latvia in 1924,
Kalman
Aron was a child prodigy who at age thirteen was commissioned to paint the official
portrait
of the Latvian President. Aron's life was turned upside down in 1941, when the Germans invaded Latvia and he was deported to a concentration camp. Aron settled in Los Angeles after the war and had a long, successful career. He began as a
portrait
painter and later became known for his vibrant landscapes and intriguing studies of people in his unique style, "psychological realism."

THE LEGAGY OF WOMAN IN GOLD:
LAMOTH's Annual Gala Dinner
At our Annual Gala Dinner, Stacey Janks Jasper, Milken Community High School Social Science teacher, will receive the LAMOTH Righteous Conversations Award. Stacey was an early advocate for the Museum's innovative Holocaust remembrance programming, introducing Los Angeles area students to LAMOTH's Righteous Conversations Project, providing them with opportunities to carry on the work of Holocaust remembrance and to speak up about injustice in the world around them through film and new media. Stacey also has brought together students and Holocaust survivors through LAMOTH's L'Dough V'Dough program, in which students and survivors braid and bake challah together, sharing personal narratives and life stories, one generation to the next. Stacey's work is inspired by her family's commitment to the Jewish community and the legacy of her husband's grandparents, who were Holocaust Survivors.
