Social Action Community
Our Social Action Community is a vibrant and active committee that  meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM. Our members are energized and brimming over with exciting programs and we are ALWAYS looking for new members.

If you are interested in doing  mitzvot and extending a helping hand, please join us as we engage the synagogue, as well as our community, with exciting and innovative projects that can be found on our dedicated webpage  by clicking this link, by sending an email to  Rhoda Goldstein, or  by clicking on the title below of  a specific program, drive or study currently in action s o you can begin participating right now !

  • Holiday Toy Drive:  Fulfill a Child's Holiday Wish! Jewish Family and Community Services is trying to make about 1,000 children in the Jacksonville area have a happy holiday season and they need our help. The children  from families who are struggling to provide the most basic items  have made wish lists for the holidays and we are going to help their wishes come true.
  • Dignity U Wear DriveThanks to your generosity, another 482 units were donated to Dignity U Wear, making our total donation for those in need at just about 1,000 articles of undergarments for men, women and children. Dignity U Wear has asked that we also help by sorting clothing for them.
  • Operation Isaiah: The recent statistics show that ONE IN EIGHT people are living in poverty and facing hunger every day right here in Jacksonville. JFCS has long provided non-perishable food items free of charge to people experiencing serious financial difficulties through their on-site Emergency Food Pantry.
  • Hubbard House Thrift Store Whether you are donating or buying, 100% of the net proceeds of the Hubbard House Thrift Store support victims of domestic violence and the services needed to keep victims and their children safe.

  • Teacher Supply Depot Drive: Please fill a bag and drop it off at the Jacksonville Jewish Center. Pick ups are on the last Sunday of each month.
  • World Relief of JacksonvilleWorld Relief Jacksonville serves two vulnerable people groups in our city: Refugees and Victims of Human Trafficking, while also advocating for Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
We look forward to having YOU join us!
Special Congregational Updates
We would be HONORED to HONOR you.
Birthdays, Anniversaries, Graduations, Brit Milah, Baby Naming, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Weddings, Life-cycle Events and Family Milestones ... what better way to celebrate these simchas than by participating in services with your JJC extended family?!

Service HONORS are available at religious services four days a week at the Jacksonville Jewish Center. We read Torah on Saturday morning, Saturday evening, Monday morning and Thursday morning. Available HONORS are reading Torah, aliyot (blessings before and after the Torah reading), hagbah (raising the Torah), gelilah (dressing the Torah), ark openings and English readings (Shabbat - Prayer for our Country, Prayer for Israel, Weekday - Psalm of the day).

If you have an upcoming simcha or are interested in having an HONOR please contact Danielle Berke here.

Please also consider hosting a Kiddush or making a donation to the Bud Shorstein Kiddush Fund to celebrate a special occasion. Contact Rose Tincher for more information at 292-1000 or email here.

Adult Jewish Library
The adult Jewish library is growing by leaps and bounds, thanks to the many people who have given us books.  However, we have a problem of too much of a good thing; the number of Jewish prayer books of various kinds are in need of homes.  If anyone knows where we can donate these siddurim, humashim, and mackzorim, please call the synagogue and let us know.  Some of these books are brand new! We even have several dozen brand new sets  of psalms  in Hebrew, and we hope someone can benefit from owning them.  In the meantime come and utilize the library - it is open when the Center is open (except for Shabbat).  We have such a wonderful collection of everything from Art to Yiddish. Also, on the shelves outside of the library, if there is no library card in the back of a book, then the book can be yours to keep in your home. In addition, help yourself to the magazines. Enjoy!

Coping with Loss
Coping With Loss is a support group that offers a safe and supportive place to share your grief. We ask that you pre-register if you are attending the class which meets twice a month by contacting Beth Shorstein here.

Hesed Community
Have you been ill, recovering from surgery or grieving? It can be a lonely experience. Let our Hesed committee reach out to you with calls or visits. Call the Center at 292-1000 or Beth Shorstein at 868-4400, or email Beth here.

The Jacksonville Jewish Center is proud to be considered one of the leading Conservative congregations in North America. Whether we are singing and celebrating Shabbat together, sitting down to explore the insights and profound wisdom found in our Torah text, or gathering with members of our congregation to make a difference in our community, we are a congregational family dedicated to deepening and enriching our connection to Judaism. The Jacksonville Jewish Center is in the heart of Jacksonville's dynamic Jewish Community. We are fortunate to have a beautiful campus on 35 acres in a park like setting that our Camp Ki Tov utilizes, featuring ball fields, basketball courts, a full swimming facility, camp grounds and more!  Our Galinsky Academy is the umbrella for the Bernard and Alice Selevan Religious School, The DuBow Preschool, Setzer Youth Education, and the Martin J. Gottlieb Day School. We offer an exceptional Sisterhood and Men's Club Program and an award winning United Synagogue Youth Program.
