Sports Quote of the Day

On This Day In History

On this day in 1776, British forces are forced to evacuate Boston following General George Washington's successful placement of fortifications and cannons on Dorchester Heights, which overlooks the city from the south.

The bloodless liberation of Boston by the Patriots brought an end to a hated eight-year British occupation of the city, known for such infamous events as the "Boston Massacre," in which five colonists were shot and killed by British soldiers. The British fleet had first entered Boston Harbor on October 2, 1768, carrying 1,000 soldiers. Having soldiers living among them in tents on Boston Common-a standing army in 18th-century parlance-infuriated Bostonians.

For the victory, General Washington, commander of the Continental Army, was presented with the first medal ever awarded by the Continental Congress.

A man goes to the doctor and tells him that he hasn't been feeling well.

The doctor examines him, leaves the room and comes back with three different bottles of pills. The doctor says, "Take the green pill with a big glass of water when you get up. Take the blue pill with a big glass of water after lunch. Then just before going to bed, take the red pill with another big glass of water."

Startled to be put on so much medicine the man stammers, "Jeez doc, exactly what's my problem?"

The Doctor says, "You're not drinking enough water."

Once again, thank you for the many well wishes for my broken butt!  What a painful injury and I think it is going to take months to heal.  Life goes on though ... and glad to be back!  Trish

I am at spring training. We are staying at the Hampton Inn if you would like to join us in the evening. Things are looking pretty good except for the pitching.  Bradley Jr. has changed his swing and will need some time. It looks like we will be stealing more bases this year.

With Baaack being the operative word, it is great to hear from you and we all hope you are recovering nicely. Not much to talk about right now as all the players are just getting in their reps. Things will be more substantial by the last week of spring training. At that point the roster will be trimmed down to around 30 players and we will see the regulars a lot. By that time we will know that Rusney Castillo will probably start in Pawtucket/Providence. We might as well start getting used to that now also. Nava is still looking as a good option as backup OF/FB.

Welcome Back Trish: I hope you are starting to get back to normal. Take it from someone who's taken a tumble or two on the ice, we don't have as much padding back there as everyone likes to tell us we do! As for the boys of summer, toiling in the Florida sun, it sounds like everything is going nicely, without incident. I'm pleased to hear that Napoli is rejuvenated (now that he's getting a good night's sleep), Mookie keeps hitting, and the pitchers are getting their work in. No one should panic if Justin Masterson or Joe Kelly has a bad couple innings, it's just PRACTICE! Tell 'em Allen Iverson........ I'm looking forward to Opening Day in Philly, only a really, really, really stupid trade with those same Phillies would dampen my enthusiasm. Go Red Sox!

Holly, obviously I praised Pawtucket before the deal was announced and I too am upset.

In looking at all the predictions here, I am seeing the future as the following:
The Red Sox will move to Florida permanently to save the travel costs and reduce the number of rainouts. The AAA team, after spending a few devastating seasons in Providence, will be moved to Foxborough, with their own new stadium, and will be known as the New England Kraftsmen eventually becoming a major league team in a future expansion.

Seriously, my biggest concern is how they handle their prospects. And how long it will take MLB to realize that the "speed up rule" will not work. Just ask Papi.

Want to save time? Give each team a fixed number of 30 second Time Outs per game to be used for visits to the mound or anywhere else by anyone including coaches, managers, catchers, fielders, agents, spouses, financial advisers and Fox interviewers!

Umpires can call discretionary time outs for injuries, weather, beach balls or streakers.

Also limit the length of between inning breaks to 1 minute except the 7th inning stretch. Don't let the networks dictate. They seem to be the overall winners no matter what is done. Lastly, limit the size of encyclicals such as this...

Peace and Sunshine to all.

Glad you are back Trish, I missed you. I watched a game the other night, The Red Sox Foundation game with Don and Jerry in the booth with Tim Wakefield. All the antics seem to be in place for a great season. It felt like summer despite the mountains of snow outside. Thanks to FB I see that Fenway Park is all green again, that was quite a feat! I've only watched a few parts of games, and I know in spring training they switch out the "starters" with the "wannabes" but I'm not seeing a lot of consistency yet...especially from our new guys that played in the NL. What is the latest feel among our contributors about a hot bat in the NL coming over to face AL pitchers? Start the discussions folks Opening day is right around the corner!

Welcome back Trish and we trust your tailbone is recovering and sitting has become less painful. Well so far at Jet Blue in our minds there is no reason to be jumping for joy. Fully realizing that it's spring and it's all about preparation we have not seen to much that made us spill our beers. Masterson looked like hell yesterday and the rest with the exception of Tazawa over the spring seem to be ready and focused. All are loving the bantering over Swihart and a trade and the Sox declaring no deals for the switch hitter and the Phillies are chomping at the chance to get him for Hamels, and seeing Hanigan work, he is a good catcher and orchestrates the pitch calls well and is a vet and SAVVY. Well they still need a starter and the despite Swihart being good, they have to get out of the gate on April 6th with a flair and if it's Buch, remember I what we saw last year when base runners were on. I would start Kelly despite his 2014 season numbers and this guy has a fast ball that gets over the plate FAST. Sandoval has a bullet arm and we are loaded in the starting lineup, but pitching ????? Trish, continued rehab, and stay off beds of nails,:).

Everyone knows Trish busts her ass working on the Remy Report, but I didn't realize it she would take the saying literally.
