Why Give?

Your support demonstrates that Saint Vincent College matters to you.  You believe in the College and what it has to offer.  Giving also is a factor for rankings such as those published by U.S. News & World Report, which for the fifth consecutive year ranked us in the first tier of National Liberal Arts Colleges.  Participation rates are also important to prospective students who want to know they will join a strong and committed alumni community.

Welcome to August, Bearcats. This month has a picnic, a sporting clays event, happy hours and a Presidential Reception paired with a golf outing. In other words, August has many opportunities for you to connect with alumni and friends of Saint Vincent College.

We start things off Aug. 1 when the Saint Vincent Alumni Council has its Summer Picnic to support the Father Gilbert J. Burke, O.S.B., Alumni Scholarship Fund.  The picnic begins at 1 p.m. and is hosted by George, P'59 and Barbara Martin at Pleasure Acres Farm, located at 149 Hornock Drive, New Alexandria, PA 15670.  There will be refreshments, hors d'oeuvres, picnic buffet, museum tours and Mass.

Sunday, Aug. 2. finds our Alumni gathering at 7 Springs Mountain Resort for our annual Alumni and Friends Sporting Clays Event. Check-in time is 8:30 a.m. and we begin our flight at 10 a.m.  The cost for the event is $100 which includes gun rental, 100 round targets, ammunition and lunch at The Grille.

Our regular monthly lunches are held on the second Friday (on campus) and third Tuesday (at Giannilli's II in Greensburg, Pennsylvania). Both lunches provide us the opportunity to connect with alumni as well as to have great food. To register, contact the Alumni Office at 724-805-2568.

On Thursday, Aug. 13, from 6-8 p.m. you will find Bearcats getting together at Hudson Grille in Sandy Springs, Georgia for an alumni social. Thursday, Aug. 27, the Alumni Office boards a plane again as we travel to St. Louis, Missouri, to gather with fellow Bearcats at Schneithorst's Restaurant & Bar  from 5-7 p.m. for an Alumni Happy Hour.

We wrap things up at the end of the month with a Presidential Reception and Golf Outing in Bedminster, New Jersey. On Aug. 30 from 5-7 p.m. please make plans to join Br. Norman Hipps, O.S.B., president of Saint Vincent College, at Fiddler's Elbow Country Club.  The following morning on Aug. 31, our Bearcat group will take to the links for a golf outing that finishes with a lunch reception. This special event is hosted by Saint Vincent College Board Member Paul Seaman, C'84 and Dan Jamieson, C'68 is helping me to organize the event.

I look forward to meeting our alumni at every event.  Please contact the Alumni Office at 724-805-2568 to register or to inquire about any of the events listed above.  Event details and registration instructions can also be found by visiting our social media sites. Steelers Faithful: 50 years at Saint Vincent

They devote their lives to serving their Lord, wearing long black robes that nearly touch the ground. They greet guests with smiles, casually mentioning their religious teachings in conversation. They live in a monastery where much of the facade is shrouded by trees, giving the building that only they can enter an air of secrecy. When I look at where I was when I entered Saint Vincent as a scared freshman to the woman I have now become, it is amazing.  I truly believe that it was the atmosphere of Saint Vincent that allowed me to grow to my fullest potential academically, spiritually, emotionally and professionally.  The Benedictine values have been ingrained in me and now I find myself living them out.  I am so thankful that I attended Saint Vincent.  Now looking back, it was clear that this was where God called me to go to college and I could not imagine what my life would be like if I had gone anywhere else.
