"Enough...and More"

Dear Members and Friends of Our Savior's Lutheran~

We find ourselves now, mid-year and nearly mid-summer.
The longer days are among us and I pray you and your family is finding these days to be restorative, relaxing and renewing.  I also pray that your relationship with God and your walk with Jesus is finding a place this summer for growth and nurture.  Life and ministry at Our Savior's this time of year is really hopping!  It is exciting to see such energy and faithfulness among so many of our members, using their gifts, as they are busy around the church and our community, doing work in God's name!  Speaking of using our gifts to do work in God's name ...

We are continuing our summer-long preaching series, "The Heart of the Matter", based on the Gospel of John.  This week we look at the story of the Feeding of the 5000 found in John, chapter 6.  In it, Jesus feeds the physical needs of people, but he has come to feed so much more than their stomachs. For us, perhaps the core message of this text is found in the revelation of verse 6, in which Jesus tests Philip by asking him how he was going to feed all the hungry people. Philip fails the test in that he does not really "see" Jesus. Instead, all Philip sees is the size of his resources. As a people who are called to feed the hungry and hurting of our community and beyond, how are we doing at passing the same test? Do we simply see the resources that are in our hands, or do we really "see" Jesus and respond accordingly? And what might that look like?

You're invited to explore this with us this Wednesday and Sunday as we dive deeper in what those resources look like and how God calls us each of us to use them, trusting in God's almighty power to provide through them.

See you in Church,

Pastor Dale Stiles
