A Letter From the Director

Fall is finally here and I know we are all looking forward to cooler weather and a busy season; hopefully October will bring us both!
First off, October 22nd the chamber will hold their monthly "Business After Hours" evening networking social. We have decided to celebrate the official start of fall, so this after hours event will include a pumpkin decorating contest as well as a caramel apple bar. This month's host will be Coldwell Banker Berger Real Estate and Romano Law Group.
Also in October, the chamber's Concealed Weapons Class will continue. This month's class will be held on October 15th and 17th. This two-day class provides the community a great opportunity to obtain their concealed weapons permit. There will be many dates for the class throughout the next few months. If our October session dates don't work for you, head on over to the chamber's website and check the calendar for a date that will fit your schedule.
Here at the chamber we are also getting excited about our annual Business of the Year Awards Luncheon coming up on Wednesday, October 21. I would encourage all of you who plan on attending the luncheon to RSVP as soon as possible, being that seating for this event fills up quickly!
October is going to be a busy month as the chamber also plans on hosting two Grand Openings! These events are a great way for other chamber members to meet new members as well as show their support to these local businesses. O'Reilly Auto Parts is the first Grand Opening scheduled for October 15th at 9:00 AM. Also the Surgery Center of Okeechobee will have their Grand Opening/Open House event on October 24th at 10:00 AM.
Last but surely not least, the chamber would not be able to make any of this happen without its members. With that being said I would like to congratulate and most of all thank our newest members joining in September. Thank you to Treasure Coast Food Bank, CareerSource Research Coast, Nurse On Call and O'Reilly Auto Parts.

Treasure Coast Food Bank "Pack the House" Event

On Friday, September 11, 2015 Chamber Director Erin Moore attended the Treasure Coast Food Bank's "Pack the House" Event for those of you who don't know Pack The House is a brand new event being hosted by the Treasure Coast Food Bank in conjunction with Hunger Action month, which brings awareness to the issue of hunger on the Treasure Coast for the entire month of September. Pack The House is a time for individual and group volunteers to come together and sort 100,000 pounds of food in a 24 hour period, creating over 83,000 meals for those in our community.

2015 Business of the Year Awards
The Chamber of Commerce of Okeechobee County will hold their 2nd Annual Business of the Year Awards Luncheon on October 21, 2015 at Indian River State College Dixon Hendry Campus in the Williamson Center. The doors open at 11:30 AM and food served at 11:45 AM. Presentations will begin at 12:00 PM and conclude 1:00 PM. Public registration will begin on September 8th, please make sure you RSVP as seating will be limited.
