Orange AHRC's 'A Night of Art & Jazz' a Success!

Thank you to the more than 140 people who came out to The Falcon in Marlboro on May 17 to support Orange AHRC and the arts! It was a fun and fulfilling night of art and live jazz performances! Orange AHRC's executive director Christopher Fortune opened the show with Rich Syracuse and Lisette Moreno. Singer Cyrille Aimee and guitarist Michael Valeanu closed the show with an incredible performance. Attendees also had the opportunity to view truly beautiful art curated by Steven Vega and made by Anthony Abatecola, Billy Decker, Sara Demetry, Sarah Graziano, Sharon Hager, Lisa Lamar, David Seleznow, Beverly Wynn, Uboldo Cruz, Lenny Dalby, and Kim Nash. All of these pieces are still on display and for sale at the Falcon.

40th Anniversary of Willowbrook Consent Judgment

April 30, 2015 marked the 40th anniversary of the historic Willowbrook Consent Judgment. NYSARC, Inc. was the main plaintiff. Orange AHRC, a chapter of NYSARC, Inc. currently serves 5 people who had lived in Willowbrook. Click here to read more about this important anniversary.
Dream Catchers Benefit Raises more than $35,000!

Joanne Murray, was presented with her Direct Support Professional Certified Initial Level 1 Credential. This second level of credentialing recognizes Direct Support Professionals who have demonstrated competence that is measured and approved by the NADSP. Required elements for DSP Level 1 Credentialing include completion of 100 related instruction hours of classroom/online learning from an NADSP accredited education or training program and a portfolio of work samples that demonstrate competence in four (4) of the fifteen (15) NADSP competency areas. Mary and Jerry have also both completed all of the required elements and will be receiving their Level 1 Credential shortly.
Orange AHRC's director of residential services, Kevin Larragy, Board Member Stephen Muller, executive director Christopher Fortune and assistant executive director Darrin Raynor visited with Assemblyman Karl Brabenec and Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther in the NYS Assembly Chambers in Albany to speak about the need for a cost of living salary increase for Direct Support Professionals.
