From ReServe's Director:
As this year's fall season commences, ReServe will celebrate its milestone Tenth Anniversary with a summit at Fordham University's vibrant Lincoln Center campus on Tuesday, November 10. The Summit will feature an overview of ReServe's accomplishments and impact over the past 10 years with the goal of informing practice and policy for a new generation of older adults.
For ten years, ReServe has embraced the potential of this generation making significant impact...in schools, in nonprofits, in fighting poverty, in health care. Please join us for a compelling discussion about what we have learned that can transform our public policies, community planning and government spending. The event is free but registration is required and can be done by clicking here.
Also on tap for this Fall is a free
ReServED workshop on
Tuesday, October 13 on effective strategies for the new multi-generational workforce, a free
Program Partner Breakfast on
October 14th, and information about a new resource for
hiring experienced older workers.
We hope to see you this Fall!
Sincerely,
Laura Traynor
Director, ReServe NY

New Pilot Program Supports Youth in Transition
Three ReServists spent their summer supporting the goals of a pilot program designed to help youth transitioning from foster care develop the skills needed for a career in civil service. Twenty-one young adults graduated from the program in September with three "graduates" having already passed a civil service exam. By all accounts, the pilot was a win-win all around.
"I learned so much about myself and these young adults," said Success Mentor Michele Pellar. "This was an exceptional group of young adults - intelligent, engaging and focused. They didn't use their past as a crutch. It was a profound experience - I was very touched by them."
The pilot was transformative for the young adults as well. "Being in foster care is so difficult, so being part of a community is really important," remarked one young participant. "I want to be a lawyer and because of this program, I know the pathway."
