Ironman Lake Tahoe, Team-Bri's "A" race, is nearly here. September 20th
is the day that we will finally venture into the world (unknown to some of us!) of swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 miles and running 26.2 miles. That's 140.6 miles, all in the same day (or night, perhaps!?).
Why, you ask? (Why, we ask, too! lol)
It's simple, really. Our efforts that day represent the titan struggle of those who are afflicted with mental illness; and, through this day (and the prior training days and nights), we are raising awareness and funding.
The funds we raise are committed the National Alliance on Mental Illness California (NAMI- California) specifically to support NAMI-California's Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program with the California Highway Patrol and other public safety agencies.
The CIT program works with law enforcement and provides education, training and assistance to aid officers in a situation when they encounter a person experiencing a mental health crisis.
Along with raising money for this spectacular program, Team-Bri members have been raising their heart rates, too! We just can't show up on September 20th and think we'll cross the finish line, although that'd be nice, eh?!
Over the last months Team-Bri has logged thousands of miles in training. I've swum 43 miles, biked 1,072 miles and run 255 miles. That's 1,370 miles, like going from Sacramento to Topeka! It's safe to say I'm looking forward to the finish line.
But, the only mileage now that counts is the September 20 race day mileage, which is 140.6 miles.
So, I'd like to ask you once again to help those who can't help themselves by sponsoring my journey of 140.6 miles in honor of the mentally ill.
We've raised over $16,000, which is 65% of our goal of $25,000. We need a final push!
Knowing how everyone has budgets, let me suggest the following options:
* Gold Medal Donor: $1,460 or more contribution
* Silver Medal Donor: $146 or more contribution
* Bronze Medal Donor: $14.6 or more contribution
Give it a thought. Give it a shot. It's not for me. It's not for you. It's for those who can't help themselves.
Racer ready? Racer go!

It's difficult to imagine that 50% of adults will develop depression, anxiety, self-harm, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, PTSD, borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, or some other mental illness in their lifetime.
This staggering reality can feel daunting, but there is HOPE for mental health.
HOPE says that you are not defined by your illness. HOPE says your life has a purpose even when you don't feel it. HOPE says you are not alone.
Be a part of breaking the silence and stigma by joining us on October 7-9, 2015 for Saddleback Church's Gathering on Mental Health and the Church. These three days are packed with practical help and hope for individuals affected by mental illness, their loved ones, church leaders, and mental health professionals. It's time to join together and create a pathway to HOPE. It's time to offer a place of refuge, love, and compassion for those who need it most. It's a time to acknowledge the facts and embrace the millions of people suffering every day from mental illness.
