Happy first week of Summer!  We are working on improving our communications to support your work and to broaden our base of support to protect the health of Maine lakes, and we'd like your help!

First, we are in the process of updating our contact information for Lake Associations on our website - please take a look at http://mainelakessociety.org/maine-lake-associations/ to see if your Lake Association information is listed and whether or not it is correct. If it needs updating, please send your current contact information to Cheryl Daigle at cpdaigle@mainelakessociety.org with "update information" in the subject line.

Over the past year, we took the plunge into the world of social media to expand our reach and build awareness of the value of Maine lakes and what action is needed to keep our lakes healthy. We have an abundance of good news lake stories to share this summer, updates on the latest LakeSmart and Lakes Alive! happenings, and calls to action on legislation to protect our water resources, among other topics.  Facebook is a great way to get lakes information out to a lot of people and so easy to share. We'd love it if you would "like" us on Facebook at  www.facebook.com/mainelakessociety
and invite your friends to do the same! Our goal is to reach 1000 likes by the end of June - we have just one week left to get there!

The Maine Lakes Society display is up in the stairwell at the Patagonia's Freeport Store through the end of June! We hope you've had a chance to stop in and take a look. Patagonia has generously donated two amazing water-proof Black Hole Duffle Bags to be raffled off to Maine Lakes Society Facebook followers when we reach 750 and 1000 likes.

Help us reach our goal and have your name entered for a chance to win one of these beautiful Patagonia bags for your favorite lake loving activities!

You can also follow us on Twitter, www.twitter.com/lovemainelakes and on Instagram, www.instagram.com/lovemainelakes. Once we are connected, we'd be happy to share your lake-friendly news and photos, too!

Bugs in the Classroom and in the news! A big thank you to Jennifer Jespersen of Ecological Instincts and a MLS board member, and Phil Mulville, our Lakes Educator, for leading a successful program with Mt. Vernon Elementary School students this spring!
Finally, we are exploring development of a Maine Lakes blog and would like to include guest bloggers from member Lake Associations - please contact Cheryl Daigle if you would be interested in contributing a 500 to 800 word blog entry telling us what makes your lake special to you or about any new initiatives in your community to protect lake water quality, educational programs, or other news that may be of interest to lake lovers statewide and beyond.

Thanks for all that you do to keep Maine lakes healthy, and we hope to see you both online and out on the water!

Sincerely,

Maggie Shannon
