SHARING THE WORD DEVOTIONAL

 IS THERE A DIFFERENCE?

Whatever you do or say, let it be as a representative of the
Lord Jesus Christ.

Colossians 3:17, NLT
(Abridged)

When you put your hands in front of you, what do you notice? Does each hand have four fingers, a thumb and the same three lines drawn across the palms of both hands? If your answer is yes, that's because they are purposely designed to look the same.

But what about the life of a Christian and a non-Christian? Are they designed to look the same? According to an article,Christian vs Non-Christian - What's the difference, when comparing the lifestyle choices of born again Christians to the national norms, there are more areas of similarity than distinction. There is no difference because people in the church are living lives and making decisions no different than the way people outside the church live. This can be seen in the way they live, on their opinions on specific moral issues, on viewing adult-only content on the internet, and on reading magazines or watching television and videos with explicit sexual content.

It was no surprise to the apostle Paul that the Christians in Colosse lived a certain way before they become believers. But once they received their new life in Christ, Paul encouraged them to rid themselves of  "anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander and dirty language," and to " clothe themselves with mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, forgiveness and patience." (Colossians 3: 8,12)

People may not see a difference in your hands, but they should see a difference between your lifestyle and the lifestyle of a non-Christian. So work hard to ensure the things you do and say align with your beliefs, so others will know there is truly something different about you.

Sharing the word,

Prayer: Lord, may the world always see there is something different about me because of you. Amen.
