FACULTY AWARDS

DESIGN FACULTY JEFF CAIN: NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS
 

This past winter, Cain curated a group  exhibition focused on designer and educator Victor Papanek's pioneering influence on socially responsible, human-centered design  at Pasadena's Armory for the Arts.

 

Cain produced a solo exhibition of 3D printed works in winter, the culmination of a Cerritos College Art + Tech Residency Program.
 

INTERMEDIA FACULTY CAROLINE CLERC: SUMMER RESIDENCY AT NORDISK KUNSTNARSENTER DALE, NORWAY

 

NKD is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and concentrates on residencies, workshops and projects. The Artists-In-Residence programme encourages international contacts for artists and focuses on visual arts including design, architecture and locally rooted practice.
 

SCULPTURE FACULTY JUD FINE: LA COUNTY ARTS COMMISSION COMPLETED
 

Art partners McCarren/Fine have installed Figure, 2015 at the Rowland Heights Community Center. The 10-ft stainless steel three-dimensional figure eight features laser cut typographical cutouts of characters, dates, coordinates, text and numbers of significance to Rowland Heights: important years in the 19th century history of the community; the Chinese character for fullness and prosperity; "Eureka," the California State motto; "one thousand ten thousand years" in Korean to convey eternality; the word "ocho" meaning "eight" in Spanish; and the longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates for Rowland Heights. 

SCULPTURE FACULTY PHYLLIS GREEN: GUGGENHEIM FELLOWSHIP

The LA Times reviewed the debut presentation of eight mixed-media objects, the culmination of Green's proposal to the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.
DESIGN FACULTY SHERIN GUIRGUIS: 2015 COLA 
FELLOWSHIP GRANTEE

The prestigious City of Los Angeles (C.O.L.A.) Fellowships honor established artists who reside in Los Angeles County and demonstrate an active exhibition and/or production record of at least 15 years.

Guirguis was also one of 14 artists selected to create art for the Crenshaw Line Metro Project
SCULPTURE FACULTY PATRICK JACKSON: 2015 POLLOCK-KRASNER GRANTEE

Over the past 30 years, the foundation has awarded over 4,000 grants totaling $62 million to artists in 76 countries. Last year 116 grants totaling $2,163,000 were awarded to visual artists and organizations internationally.
SCULPTURE FACULTY NANCY LUPO: 2015 REMA HORT MANN FOUNDATION GRANTEE

The Rema Hort Mann Foundation awards Emerging Artist Grants to promising contemporary artists. Past recipients include Sarah Sze, Dana Schutz,and Mickalene Thomas among others.

FINE ARTS FACULTY RUTH WEISBERG: SCG  PRINTMAKER EMERITUS AWARD
 
A current survey exhibition Ruth Weisberg: Reflections Through Time," at Jack Rutberg Fine Arts expands upon Weisberg's recent exhibition at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, presented on the occasion of receiving the prestigious 2015 Printmaker Emeritus Award from the Southern Graphics Council, the largest international body of printmakers in North America. (The SGC's previous awardee, in 2014, was Wayne Thiebaud.)

INTERMEDIA FACULTY JENNIFER WEST: 2015-16 ARTIST IN RESIDENCE AT EMPAC
 

The Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute provides a state-of-the-art facility  that supports the realization of complex works at any stage from inception to completion as well as the support of a staff of experts in audio, video, interactive interfaces, and stage technologies.

West's Tar Pits Film is a recent acquisition by the Collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, purchased with funds provided by the LENS: Photography Council, 2015.

ALUMNI AWARDS
CAROLINA CAYCEDO MFA '14: 2015  CREATIVE CAPITAL GRANTEE

The  LA Times covered the 13 Los Angeles-based emerging artists awarded the funds necessary to complete important ongoing and new projects. This year Creative Capital awarded 50 artists more than 4.3M in support. Caycedo's project mines the environmental and social effects of large dams.

CAYETANO FERRER MFA '10 AWARDED 2015 FAENA PRIZE FOR THE ARTS
 

One of the largest art prizes in Latin America, Faena Prize awards Ferrer $75,000 for artistic production.

SELENE PRECIADO MA '15: 2015 LACE EMERGING CURATORS PROGRAM

LACE is proud to announce the winners of its inaugural Emerging Curators program Idurre Alonso and Selene Preciado. Their exhibition, Customizing Language presenting at LACE in January 2016 critically examines how language reflects geopolitical realities.  LACE is a nonprofit organization founded in 1978 and provides avenue that advocates and exhibits innovations in art-making and public engagement.
