September is Spectacular!

Well, I am back from vacation, and like everyone else, getting re-adjusted to the return to my day to day life! I had a wonderful time away with friends and family, and I certainly missed my ISD family! I very much appreciated all the kind words and thoughts so many of you offered as comfort for the untimely passing of our beloved doggy while we were on vacation.

Our service this past Sunday was all about transitions -- from the summer to fall, from vacation to work and school. Back-to-school, we said, is, in a way, "back to life," isn't it?

Well, here we are! And I think you are going to LOVE the transition into September at ISD -- because, as we have been saying, September is going to be spectacular!

First and foremost SUNDAY SERVICES RETURN TO 11 A.M. THIS SUNDAY! Mark your calendars, set your alarms -- ISD's Sunday Service begins at 11 a.m. Then join us after service for our "end of the season" picnic. We'll supply the grillers, you supply a side dish serving 4-6 people, and email Ashley Sullivan at [email protected] to let her know what you'll be bringing!

Part of our transition back to school this year has been the tremendous success of our Back (Pack) to School Project! Yes indeed, thanks to your incredible generosity, we raised more than $1400 to purchase and fully stock 40 backpacks for the children of the Douglas Knolls Community of Southeast DC, just in time for the start of their school year! My heartfelt thanks to my friend, colleague and mentor Rev. Patricia Makin, who, along with her granddaughters Elizabeth and Caroline, kept up her longstanding dedication to this program and made it happen successfully yet again. What a blessing!

And then this past Sunday, we proudly "graduated" our most recent "class" of certified ISD healers, who made time during this summer to discover and develop their innate healing abilities in service to ISD. We wish them congratulations on this achievement, and you can look for them as your healing and wellness practitioners on Sundays and at our Wellness Expos.

Speaking of Wellness Expos, we had our second one of the summer immediately following Sunday's service, and it was lovely! A thanks to all members of the Wellness Team, both new and veteran, who shared their abilities and talents to cultivate Well-Being for our ISD community! To see some of Jorge Seleme's beautiful photos from the event, visit our Facebook page here. Once again my thanks goes to Wellness Team leaders Rev. Kathy Gregg and Rose Stafiej, who coordinated the entire Healing Certification Course this summer, along with the two Expos. We are so proud of the work you have accomplished for ISD and for our Wellness program!

As we transition into September, our momentum keeps picking up, as we kick off our first class of the fall on Thursday, September 3 - The Five Agreements to Create Love and Happiness, led by the wonderful Reverends Ken and Sherry Foor. Not only will discuss the two "Agreement" books of don Miguel Ruiz, but they will offer real life application of these principles and offer insight into how we integrate them into our lives.

On Friday September 4 at 7:30 p.m., our Wellness Team will be hosting a "Healers Healing Healers" circle for anyone who considers himself or herself a healer. It is a wonderful, relaxing time to share our gifts, practice our wellness skills and support one another.

Next Wednesday, September 9 at 7:30 p.m. is the return of our popular Life Empowerment Discussion Group, led by life coach and social worker Ava Barron-Shasho. This is a great opportunity to share and release in a professionally-facilitated, supportive environment. They will be held on the SECOND WEDNESDAY of every month from now until the end of the year. Join us!

But wait there's more! Like the Psychic Fair on September 12, and the class on the Essenes taught by our own Rev. James De Biasio beginning September 15. We'll have a guest appearance by ISD-Sparta's Karen Slember, who will be hosting an evening of Evidential Mediumship on September 18, followed by an all-day workshop on September 19. Then we'll kick off our Practical Reiki Certification program, led by Alice Langholt, who will hold her Practical Reiki Level One Certification Workshop on Saturday, September 26.

So much going on! Check out ISD's September calendar here, our Facebook page here, and our Instagram account here. - then check back again and again for updates! There's always something exciting happening!

Welcome back, Everyone!

In joy and peace -

In The Four Agreements (a New York Times bestseller for over seven years), don Miguel Ruiz revealed how the process of our education, or "domestication," can make us forget the wisdom we were born with. Throughout our lives, we make many agreements that go against ourselves and create needless suffering. The Four Agreements help us to break these self-limiting agreements and replace them with agreements that bring us personal freedom, happiness, and love.

In his book The Fifth Agreement, don Miguel Ruiz joins his son, don Jose Ruiz, to offer a fresh perspective on The Four Agreements, and a powerful new agreement for transforming our lives into our personal heaven: The Fifth Agreement. The Fifth Agreement takes us to a deeper level of awareness of the power of the Self, and returns us to the authenticity we were born with.

Clothed in mystery and forgotten by history, this remarkable aesthetic Jewish cult may hold a glimpse into the life and times of Jesus. Their beliefs, practices and apocalyptic philosophy-fascinating in themselves-now reach from antiquity to bring remarkable new light on the development of early Christianity. With the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the historical treasure of a barren and desolate desert community comes a glimpse of one of the most fascinating-and for us, revealing-peoples of the ancient Judaic world.

Join us as we explore the history and influence of The Essenes!
