ASTounding Art: The Life and Works of Wanda Ast are presented by Professor of History Dr. Theresa Ast

"Wanda Maria Kowalska Ast was my paternal grandmother, my BABCIA (Polish for grandmother). Babcia was born in Germany in 1909 and shortly thereafter her family moved to Poland where she spent the next four decades of her life, where she married and had four children.

"The Ast Family, Wanda, her husband Edmund who was a sculptor, and their four children - Jacek, Marek, Justin, and Krystyna - survived the Nazi invasion and occupation of Poland. They were Catholic, so they were not specifically targeted by the Nazis as were the Jews, Gypsies, and people on the political Left, but this is not to say that the Nazis treated anybody in Poland with respect or benevolence. Everyone was afraid of the Nazis, as they were violent, cruel, and perhaps worst of all, unpredictable...

A Night in Vienna at Reinhardt

The students and faculty of Reinhardt University recently presented semi-staged performances of music by Schubert, Mozart, Lehar, and Johann Strauss in a casual atmosphere reminiscent of Vienna's famed cafés. The audience sat back and relaxed in the gorgeous atrium of the Falany Performing Arts Center with coffee and dessert while Reinhardt Opera Theater transported them to Vienna, Austria.

Sports Headlines
Bria White and Danielle Pray combined for 27 of Reinhardt's 37 bench points as the Lady Eagles defeated Thomas, 63-59, Saturday afternoon in the 2015-16 women's basketball season opener in Thomasville, Ga.

"Bria and Danielle both came in and gave us a lift," said RU head coach Lindsey Huffman. " Angel Foster did a great job finishing for us around the win. It was tough for us to go on the road for our first game, but I'm really happy to come away with the win."

Perie Finley's runner with 1.1 to go proved to be the difference as Reinhardt opened its men's basketball season with an 82-80 win over LaGrange in front of 574 at the Brown Athletic Center Wednesday night.

The game was close for most of the contest, with the score tied at the half and LaGrange leading for most of the contest. With the Eagles down 78-71, RU went on a 9-0 run over the next 2:30 to take an 80-78 lead with just :24 left as Finley and William Reid combined for eight of the points during the run. LaGrange tied the game with 10.8 seconds to go as Mike White hit a put-back for the Panthers after a Josh Stone block.

Photo Caption: " My freshman year, my honors English professor told us to write an essay about the place we truly belonged. I stared at the topic sheet for a week and I couldn't come up with anything, which was very disheartening to a girl who was four hours away from home alone for the first time and already felt out of place. Three years later, I can honestly say I have found where I belong. Reinhardt has presented me with many challenges, but it has also given me more than I ever could have dreamed. I have come so far from the introverted and insecure girl I was when I was when I left high school and I know that who I was then would be proud of who I am now. Being elected onto homecoming court was such an honor. While we were standing on the field, I had to take a second to soak in just how incredibly lucky I was be standing there with three wonderful ladies I love. Thank you, Hannah, Rachel, and Emily for being such blessings in my life. And thank you to everyone who has made my college experience unforgettable. Reinhardt has changed me and I'm savoring every moment I have left here at America's favorite four-way stop. Go Eagles! #WeAreReinhardt :@abisneathen
