The Institute for Spiritual Development
Sailing into September!

If you want to find out about membership, click here, and see Deacon Martha Saenz, Membership Chair, at church on Sunday.

Well, at ISD we sure know how to close out one season and usher in another one, don't we? This past Sunday was, in my humble opinion, a highlight of ISD's summer - in fact its year-to-date. We welcomed one of our newest members, Rod Hill, to the podium as our guest homilist. We are proud of Rod as a recent student in ISD's "Inspired Public Speaking" class, and are delighted he was able to combine his years of being a professional speaker with his insights from his spiritual journey to hit it out of the park with his message of Eternity is NOW!

After service we had a most DELIGHTFUL "Endless Summer" picnic, with many folks both old and new having a burger and sharing good company. We even got to use our newly-donated picnic table for the first time! It looks like everyone was really enjoying the picnic vibe of the day. I want to acknowledge the hard work of Ashley Sullivan and Michelle Loy for the herculean task of getting it all ready for us to enjoy as soon as service was over. Please thank them the next time you see them, because they made it all possible!

And now, we sail right on into September, with our full schedule of spiritual fun!

Tomorrow night - Wednesday, September 9 - is the return of our Life Empowerment Discussion Group, which begins at 7:30 p.m. and led by life coach and social worker Ava Barron-Shasho. This is a great opportunity to share and release in a professionally-facilitated, supportive environment. They will be held on the SECOND WEDNESDAY of every month from now until the end of the year. This month's topic is "Shame" and how to face it and release it.

Thursday September 10 we continue with the second of four classes on The Five Agreements to Create Love and Happiness, led by the wonderful Reverends Ken and Sherry Foor. Not only will they discuss the two "Agreement" books of don Miguel Ruiz, but they will offer real life application of these principles and offer insight into how we integrate them into our lives.

Saturday September 12th is our ever popular Psychic Fair, so make plans to join us to receive some wonderful uplifting messages from your favorite ISD mediums. Doors open at 6, appointments begin at 6:30 and readings begin at 7 p.m.

And mark your calendars for Rev. James De Biasio's fascinating three-session class on the Essenes, beginning September 15 at 7:30 p.m.

We'll have a guest appearance by ISD-Sparta's Karen Slember, who will be hosting an evening of Evidential Mediumship on September 18. This evening is limited to 15 attendees so make your reservations today! Then on Saturday September 19, Rev. Karen will host a 1/2-day workshop called "All About Soul" from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The following week we'll kick off our Practical Reiki Certification program, led by Alice Langholt, who will hold her Practical Reiki Level One Certification Workshop on Saturday, September 26.

So much going on! Check out ISD's September calendar here, our Facebook page here, and our Instagram account here. - then check back again and again for updates! There's always something exciting happening!

Welcome back, Everyone!

LIFE EMPOWERMENT DISCUSSION GROUP

Wednesday, September 9, 2015
7:30 p.m.

Cost:
Members - $20

She's back!  Life Coach Ava Barron-Shasho facilitates this group-driven and energizing monthly discussion group so that you can:
  • Listen and learn from the successes and challenges of others.
  • Gain insight to "reset" your view of self
  • Raise and replenish your energy level
  • Achieve your aspirations in harmony and balance
  • Fortify your life choices
This month's topic will be "Shame." Shame is something we start learning during our childhood. We carry this around much like Charles Shultz's character Pigpen has his dust cloud. Shame prevents us from being and enjoying our better self. Join us as we first learn to identify our shame messages from our family of origin and start to rid ourselves of them. With insight awareness and laughter you will leave with a higher level of energy and self worth

In The Four Agreements (a New York Times bestseller for over seven years), don Miguel Ruiz revealed how the process of our education, or "domestication," can make us forget the wisdom we were born with. Throughout our lives, we make many agreements that go against ourselves and create needless suffering. The Four Agreements help us to break these self-limiting agreements and replace them with agreements that bring us personal freedom, happiness, and love.

In his book The Fifth Agreement, don Miguel Ruiz joins his son, don Jose Ruiz, to offer a fresh perspective on The Four Agreements, and a powerful new agreement for transforming our lives into our personal heaven: The Fifth Agreement. The Fifth Agreement takes us to a deeper level of awareness of the power of the Self, and returns us to the authenticity we were born with.

Clothed in mystery and forgotten by history, this remarkable aesthetic Jewish cult may hold a glimpse into the life and times of Jesus. Their beliefs, practices and apocalyptic philosophy-fascinating in themselves-now reach from antiquity to bring remarkable new light on the development of early Christianity. With the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the historical treasure of a barren and desolate desert community comes a glimpse of one of the most fascinating-and for us, revealing-peoples of the ancient Judaic world.

Join us as we explore the history and influence of The Essenes!
