Rabbi's Message
Time for the Holidays
On my last birthday I received a card. On one side it said: IT'S NEVER TOO LATE. Inside it said: IT'S LATER THAN YOU THINK. As great as I feel, there is no sense kidding myself. While I'm not slowing down, I feel that time is moving faster than ever.
The introspective holidays, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are upon us. Time goes by so darn fast. It seems that we just observed those holidays a couple of months ago. It's at this time of year that we take stock of ourselves.
Steve Jobs once said, "My favorite things in life don't cost any money ... it's really clear that the most precious resource we all have is time." Time is more than seconds, hours, days and years. Time is life ... time is past, present, future. And it keeps on moving.
During our time, let us not waste it on foolish things or expecting an expression of gratitude for the good that we do. We do good because we're a good people. We do good because we want to. We do good because it's the right thing to do.
Now, more than ever, the High Holidays are a good tim
e to savor every minute we have with our loved ones.
Nobody knows what the future may bring. So why waste our time worrying about it?
Reminds me of the fellow who fell off of a high rise story building ... as he was falling, people on each floor kept hearing him say: "So far, so good!"
On Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we will pause to remember. I will recall my relationship with my parents ... I will think of my relationship with my children, my grandchildren, my friends, my relatives in NY, NJ, Washington State, N. Carolina, Florida, .......
All of them are a part of a quilt pattern of my life. They have sustained me and enabled me to reach another year and, lest I forget, you my congregation who has given me added impetus to continue and do the thing I love most in my life. And for that, I thank you from the bottom of my Jewish heart.
Jeff, Chelsea and Tess join me in wishing you, Israel and all people, a happy, healthy and peace-filled year.
Rabbi Jerry Ram Cutler

High Holiday Parking
The Beverly Hills Police Department will not be giving out tickets to those parking on the street for High Holidays. So there are no restrictions.
Creative Arts Temple will also be providing valet parking at the front of the Beverly Vista Auditorium on the corner of Rexford and Charleville.
Beverly Vista does not allow anyone but valets to park cars on school property, so we are sorry, but we have to charge
$5 per car for each day of attendance toward the valet service. If you plan on attending all
4 services that would be $20.
Once you make your parking reservation, we will send you a special ticket for each day you plan to attend. The parking tickets will be included in the seat ticket package that you'll be receiving 1 week prior to services.
There are other High Holiday services being conducted across the street, so we have to make sure that only Creative Arts Temple congregants are being attended to, so it's imperative that you
bring your tickets each day.
If you do not reserve valet parking, your only option will be street parking,
Please call the office to make your reservation (310) 446-1800

Arne's Corner
LIVING TORAH: ALWAYS FIND SOMETHING KIND TO SAY
(G-d knows I'm trying)
The entire world, including President Obama, is displaying increased hostility toward Israel.
Former Israeli Ambassador to the U.S., Michael Oren, who is politically liberal, recently wrote, "From the moment he entered office, Pres. Obama promoted an agenda of championing the Palestinian cause and recognition of Iran's right to nuclear power - without consulting Israel."
Oren added, "the President altered 40 years of U.S. policy by endorsing the 1967 lines with land swaps- formally the Palestinian position - as the basis for peacemaking, making no substantial demands of the Palestinians.
(I'm trying, really trying, attendance at Rabbi Jerry's, "What is a Jew" classes have certainly helped to set my moral compass.)
Israel does not deserve the condemnation and dangerous demands that are being heaped upon her. In fact, Israel has the most moral army in the world and is one of the greatest human rights respecting nations in the world.
The Obama/Kerry, Iran/Nuke deal as it plays out will eventually force Israel's hand. The world at that time, with damn few exceptions will castigate Israel, THEN try to find something "kind" to say.
Arnold Charitan
President
