Still Hope for Indy?

On the Advent of the event called Christmas there is no better time for remembering victims of homicide. When mothers and fathers, friends, and family members are struggling with the empty place at the table, the empty room where once that son or daughter lay sleeping. Where that mother and wife, that father and husband's voice filled the air with laughter, and suddenly it all goes away. The sound of gunfire silencing that life, shattering hope. The Drive-by-Prayer Vigil (DBPV) team still believes "if drive by guns can kill, drive by prayers can heal!"

This Saturday, December 12th at 2:00 p.m. the DBPV team along with other members of church and community will stand together remembering all 140+ victims of homicide in 2015. This equates to over 140 neighborhoods affected, 140 families grieving, 140 men and women (some of whom leave children and grandchildren behind). And how does one celebrate Christmas through the grief, the pain, the sorrow? How does one see light through the darkness of death?

Saturday's prayer vigil will bring Hope to the sad and hurting. Hope is a person, his name is Jesus. We will string up some light (prayer) on Saturday and brighten the life of families, friends, and the affected communities with the truth that there is a Light that is able to shine in and through dark places and that darkness is incapable of overcoming that "LIGHT". Jesus the Light of the World will be breathed out into the streets of Indianapolis and beyond on Saturday.

We are weary of murder, but we are not weary of freedom. We are tired of terrorism, but we are not tired of courage. The enemy's goal is to bait us into fear and lure us into a pit of hopelessness. We are worn down with the headlines, but our strength is not worn down, our faith is not worn down, and our hope is not worn down.  Our hope remains in Christ who is in us.  He is the hope that keeps us praying for better neighborhoods, better communities, a better city!

There is still HOPE for the city of Indianapolis - Jesus Christ - the hope of glory!  "...Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27)

Who We Are

Drive-by Prayer Vigil was birthed in August 2006, when the homicide rate in Indy was at an all time high.  The then Mayor and Sheriff stated in the headlines of the Indy Star "We Are At War!  We've got to do something different".  That Sunday morning, Senior Pastor A. Thomas Hill addressed the members of Healing Streams Word & Worship Center and shared the vision for something different: Drive-by Prayer Vigils

Since 2006, the Drive-by Prayer team (consisting of members of churches across the city) have been meeting and praying with the families of homicide victims and as of recent has begun a subsequent initiative: Preemptive Prayer Strikes.  The prayer team, lead by Outreach Minister Paul Bateman, travels and prays in the troubled areas of the city before an incident occurs.

Prayer still changes things!
Our Mission

A city-wide response of prayer for families of homicide victims as well as for the healing of our city due to the senseless violence that continues to threaten our communities.

II Chronicles 7:14 communicates the posture of Christians during evil times. "If my people who are called by my name would humble themselves and pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land." [God]
