Advocacy - Working For You

SME Challenges with government: Public Works and Government Services Canada's Office of Small and Medium Enterprises and Strategic Engagement (OSME-SE), is studying aspects of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and federal procurement. This study will measure the impact of implemented changes, as well as provide information on the current procurement environment for SMEs and any new issues or challenges facing suppliers. Chamber Calls on Province to Increase Investment: The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce is calling on the government to increase tourism expenditures and investment potential. The tourism industry provides an impact of over $1.5 billion dollars to the economy and creates thousands of jobs. Read more here.

Provincial Minister: The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce met with Deanne Crothers to discuss the role MB companies and the government can play together in putting a focus on healthier living at work and home. There are plans to meet again on the topic. Read more about the Wellness Works program

Share your Story with Canada: The Canadian Chamber of Commerce is looking for inspiring business growth stories for the Private Business Growth Award. Ten finalists will be flown to Toronto, and their stories shared to inspire others in the country for strategic, sustainable growth. Submissions are due online by July 10.

 

Come & Gone: The Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba is pleased with the Manitoba Summer Fair and the 95,000 visitors that came to our city as a result of it, as well as the higher number of community members that are getting involved in the fair.

 

Now Available Online: The newest edition of the MBiz Magazine can be found here. The publication is for and about Chambers in Manitoba, Members and our Province.
 

Federal Project: NetSet Communications will receive federal funding to expand high-speed internet access for Westman communities, benefiting commercial, agricultural, government and residential users.


Congratulations: Brandon Civic Senior Citizens Inc. (AKA. Prairie Oasis) executive director Barbara Blake received the Award of Commitment from the Manitoba Association of Seniors Centres.
 

He Came Back: The Brandon Sun featured Glen Kirkland and a new docudrama that focuses on a new concept of "post-traumatic growth" - the positive outcomes of overcoming a traumatic situation, and seeks to give people a better understanding of mental illness and post-traumatic stress disorder.
