President's Message - Daniel Andersen, CFP?

"The times they are a changing", or so says Bob Dylan. As financial planners there are always changes to which we have to adapt. In any given year we may have changes in government regulation, technology, investment and business philosophy, and best practices. But what remains the same, what remains unchanged? The human element; people remain unchanged. There have been changes in the ways that we interact, but at the very core, our most important and nourishing interactions aren't done through online robotic tools, but through a handshake and eye contact.

Far be it from me, a millennial, to reject technology. However I feel like growing up with technology gives me a unique perspective on the importance of real interactions with peers, colleagues, and friends. It is my sincere hope that our meetings this year can help us bend, flex, and grow with all of the changes that are occurring while also allowing us to develop friendships and comraderies. Our gatherings, whether they be meetings for continuing education or social events should not only educate but elevate.

If you feel like you would like to join the board or participate in shaping our chapter, please let someone on the board know of your interest.

What is the essence of life? To serve others and to do good. -Aristotle

We are all busy these days with our careers, family and hobbies. I have a deep appreciation for our members that choose to take time out of their busy lives to give back to the communities that we live in. I really cannot say thank you enough. I am proud to see how our pro bono efforts have grown and look forward to seeing what else we can accomplish, together.

I continue to work with Junior Achievement trying to strengthen the relationship between their group and ours. I attended their JA Information Day at the end of February and was able to learn more about the programs that they offer at every grade level. With our real world experience, our members really can add so much to the programs that JA offers. If you signed up to volunteer with JA but have not heard from them, I would encourage you to email Kate Schleiger at: [email protected] . We are also planning on having an FPANC event with JA sometime in September.  Continue reading here

Pro Bono Opportunity

I was asked to spread the word about a pro bono opportunity in Stockton. The California Health Care Facility is looking for volunteers to give seminars to their inmate population on budgeting and financial literacy so that they can be better equipped to handle life after their parole. The seminar material would be FPA National material similar to the presentations given at Financial Planning Day.

If you are interested in this opportunity, know of someone who might be, or can think of another organization that would be a good fit for this population, please contact me at: [email protected].
