MABLETON IMPROVEMENT COALITION

NEWSLETTER

November 16, 2015

From the President...

As we have mentioned before, MIC has been tabulating the responses to our poll on this question: "Should Mableton Become a City?" If you haven't taken the poll, it's still available - click here - and take just a few minutes to tell us what you think. Again, just to be clear, MIC is not for or against this effort - we are merely trying to put information out there to address those questions that have been brought to our attention.

MIC has just completed its most recent Neighborhood Watch Program; if you and your neighbors would be interested in our assistance in this area, please let us know.

The Amateur Advocate Association has announced that Mableton Day will return to the Mable House Complex on May 12, 2016. Over the past 5 years, MIC has been an organizing partner in this great event and we have been humbled to see how the event has grown. With so many other projects in progress, MIC has decided not to be a partner in the Mableton Day Coalition for 2016 and instead focus on other initiatives. We wish Amateur Advocate Association every success and commend their good work on this event. We look forward to seeing all of you at Mableton Day. If you should have any questions concerning details as to this event, please contact the Amateur Advocate Association.

We are simply thrilled at the amount of interest shown by all of you in response to the Secret Santa program! It is apparent that we are a community that cares a lot about one another!

There is a lot happening here in Mableton over the holidays, too. Later in this newsletter, you'll find information about how you can help your neighbors enjoy a Thanksgiving meal, shop and dine at the Mable House Arts Center, and bring the kids out for the annual Candy Cane Hunt. Check into all these opportunities and make them part of your holiday traditions.

As always, feel free to give me a call or send me an email - I'm always ready to talk about Mableton !

Sincerely,

Joel Cope

Feed the Hungry with H.O.P.E. Family Resource Center
Tuesday, November 17th from 2pm to 7pm
Join with the H.O.P.E. Family Resource Center as they provide a pre-Thanksgiving Day Feast for anyone in need wishing to join them at the Mableton Banquet Hall at 6114 Mableton Parkway on Tuesday, November 17th from 2pm to 7pm. Volunteers are still needed and this is a great way to engage your church group, organization, school, business, co-workers and friends in this "feed the hungry" event.

Financial contributions are also welcome; a tax-deductible donation of $25 feeds a family of 6 people.  In addition to a great meal, there will be music, entertainment, give-a-ways and games for the children. Click here to read the flyer and learn more.

Help MIC Clean up Mableton
Saturday, November 21st at 9am
Our next Adopt-a-Mile of 2015 will be Saturday, November 21st, starting promptly at 9:00am. We will meet in the Kroger Shopping Center parking lot adjacent to the Autobell Car Wash on Floyd Road.

With the added traffic islands since the first phase improvement project completion, it's a bigger job than before, so your help will be greatly appreciated.  It takes only about an hour for MIC volunteers to pick up the accumulated trash and it's an hour well spent! Floyd Road will look a whole lot better when we are done. Wear sturdy shoes or boots and bring gloves if you like. We provide latex gloves, safety vests, trash bags, bottled water -- and a warm welcome.

Please contact Dave McDaniel if you plan to participate or if you have any questions/concerns.

MIC at Mable's Tea Room - Cakes and Soups Needed
Friday & Saturday, December 4th and 5th
For the last several years, MIC volunteers have "adopted" Mable's Tea Room , Tea Room providing volunteers, homemade cakes, and soups for this wonderful Mableton tradition. In return, the South Cobb Arts Alliance , which sponsors the event, makes a donation to MIC. The Tea Room has become an important fundraiser for MIC as well as a chance to serve our friends and neighbors.

MIC volunteers are ready to go on December 4th and 5th, but we still need more cakes and soups, which count towards MIC's fundraising goals. Your cooking doesn't have to be fancy! Dust off that recipe that friends and family always enjoy and share it with your community!  Email J.R. White with any questions and to let him know what you can contribute. We are focused on December 4th and 5th, but other food on other days is needed, too.

Make reservations now for your group of 4 or more at Mable's Tea Room for lunch and then enjoy the great shopping. For reservations, call 770 819-3285. The Tea Room is open December 4th through December 12th (closed December 6th) from 11am until 2pm. On December 6th, the popular Mommy and Me teas will return. Contact the Mable House Arts Center at 770 819-3285 for reservations.
