Message from the President

This year has gone by so quickly and before we know it, it's 2016 already!

I am excited about our new and refreshed programs that were launched this fall - Our Business World, Economics for Success, and Be Entrepreneurial. They have been very well received and it is truly rewarding to know that our new programs are making an impact on our students. Thank you for your feedback. It has helped us improve our program delivery and will continue to do so into the new year.

At JABC, we have so much to be thankful for in 2015, and it's all because of supporters like you - our donors, volunteers and teachers - who have played a part in educating our youth and enabling them to succeed in today's global economy.

We want to continue our momentum and do even better in 2016, but we can't do this alone. To reach even more youth with relevant, practical business education, we need your continued support. Please consider giving a gift to inspire and empower Junior Achievers to help them become leaders of tomorrow.

Again, thank you for having worked so hard in 2015 to make our programs such a big success. We look forward to continue working with you in 2016!

Students get crash course on finance

Coast Capital Savings Youth Team members Kathleen Hill and Breyn Banks delivering Dollars with Sense program at Victoria High School

In celebration of National Financial Literacy Month in November, JABC was featured in the media for our financial literacy programs. Times Colonist reported on the Coast Capital Savings delivery of the JA Dollars with Sense program at Victoria High School for their Grade 11 Planning students on November 26. The program was delivered with much success to three classrooms; two of the classrooms had JA Volunteers from Coast Capital Savings Youth Team - Breyn Banks and Rachel Kelly.

One student was excited about the program presentation, saying that it helped give her "a better understanding of how money works, how to save it, and how to budget."

Coast Capital Savings Credit Union is a long-time sponsor of the JA Dollars with Sense program in British Columbia.

JABC was well represented by alumnus Loretta Yang in a thank-you speech to BC Premier Christy Clark at the BC Business Summit - BC 2035 on November 19, 2015. The event, organized by the BC Business Council, brought senior business leaders, government officials, First Nations, academic and community leaders together in a conversation about the future of British Columbia's economy. Particularly, the Summit asked the question: what type of British Columbia do we want to see in 2035.

Loretta Yang, an active member of the JABC Young Alumni Network, is a graduate of the JA Company Program in 2011 and a winner of the 2015 Award for Oratory and Presentation Skills. In her address, Loretta Yang thanked the Premier for sharing her vision for the future of BC, and encouraged government and business leaders to work together to build a prosperous economy that she and her generation will inherit by 2035. Her speech was very well received by everyone in the room. Thank you Loretta for representing JABC at the Summit.
