Overview:
Don't take starting a new business lightly. While there is no guarantee of business success, there are steps you can take to increase the chances you'll succeed. They center around knowledge and planning. Shouldn't you know those steps? This workshop will start out with some tough questions you have to ask yourself before you begin. Then it will guide you through some of the resources that are freely available to answer those questions. Finally, it will address some of the basic steps to preparing your own business plan. Finally, you will have a chance to ask things that may be on your mind about starting your new enterprise.
Mark Lieberman is a serial entrepreneur who learned about entrepreneurship first hand by starting four different small businesses during his career. Like many, Mark learned working in corporate America wasn't for him so started businesses. He and a partner started a combination software and services business from scratch and built into a company with almost $20 million annual sales. His second effort was a consulting business while the third was an e-book reader working prototype seven years prior to Kindle. The last was a telecommunications company which he grew from zero to $8 million in 4 years before being sold.

Mr. Lieberman graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and has a Masters degree from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management. He has published a number of articles on production and inventory control, a field he learned well during his first business. Mark is a SCORE mentor in Niles and Des Plaines and enjoys teaching business planning. Retired, Lieberman lives in Highland Park with his wife. Early risers may see him staying balanced by enthusiastically running and biking the streets of the area.
