House Update: July 2015
Michelle's Message

Between holiday cookouts, visiting family members and the flurry of our summer events, the House is buzzing with activity! This summer has also brought an outpour of support from the central Indiana community of which we are so thankful. Earlier this summer, we were given the opportunity to celebrate the incredibly strong and courageous parents that stay here at the House, with two special events on Mother's and Father's Days. A big thank you to Katie Duckett for coordinating the 4th Annual Mother's Day Tea Party and to McDonald's of Central Indiana for providing a much needed break with a barbeque celebration on Father's Day. Your support gives families the gift of togetherness!

Our next big event, the 11th Annual Pop Tab and Coin Drop, will be held next Friday, July 17th from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Join us as we take over Monument Circle! There will be games, live music, food trucks, face painting and so much more! This event is family-friendly and free to attend, so grab the kids and head to the Circle for a fun afternoon. Thank you for supporting the House, we look forward to seeing you all soon.

Take care,

Michelle

The Hearts of Our House

Volunteers are truly the foundation of the Ronald McDonald House. Whether it's working at the front desk, organizing the pantry, collecting pop tabs, or preparing a meal, the time and effort put forth by our volunteers makes a significant difference to the families that stay here.

One of the most popular volunteer activities is providing meals for the families that stay here each night. After a long day or night at the hospital, the comfort of a home-cooked meal is so appreciated. Cloud-based computing company, Salesforce (formerly ExactTarget), has been providing breakfast to our families, twice a month, over the past several months. We sat down with Dana McNulty, Program Coordinator at the Salesforce Foundation, to talk a little bit about her experience as a volunteer.

Tell us a little about Salesforce

Salesforce was founded on a 1-1-1 integrated philosophy, meaning that the company is dedicated to giving 1% of the company's product, equity and time to improving the community. Through this model, any nonprofit organization qualifies to receive donated and discounted products from Salesforce. Employees are also encouraged to give back. Each full-time member receives 6 paid volunteering days off, or "VTO". (With this VTO, employees are allowed to take time off to benefit whatever charity they choose. This can be done individually or in teams. Once they've reached 48 hours of VTO, employees receive a "Champion Grant" of $1,000 that can be donated to any charity they choose.)

What was your first impression of RMHI?

I thought that it was a really unique way to serve people. They're all going through different challenges and to be able to provide them a meal and one less thing to worry about is really impactful.

What's it like to be a volunteer at RMHI?

One of the things that I love is that it's so organized. You come in, get your parking pass, and it's all really easy. It also gives us room to be a little creative, as a group. We get together to plan our meals, find the recipes, go shopping together, etc. It's a lot of fun.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering with the House?

Expect a fun opportunity to make food, hang out with your pals, and help out some families who could use a little extra sunshine in their day.

Thank you, Dana and Salesforce for taking the time to chat with us and for all that you do for the families staying at our House!

Another fantastic golf tournament is in the hole, and we could not have done it without the continuous support and help from our great volunteers, donors and sponsors. A big thank you to all of our 2015 golf partners, golf professionals, teams and staff for a great day of golf and fun!

The 9th annual Heroes for the House 5k (formerly Run for Ronald) hosted by Indiana Real Estate Management was a huge success. We greatly appreciate the donations and hard work of everyone who helps make this event possible.
