A CAST OF STRONG, SMART AND BOLD GIRLS
Believe it or not, a holiday play can be about more than angel costumes and manger scenes. At Girls Inc. of Memphis it's about growing strong, smart and bold.

On Dec. 16, Girls Inc. LDT Center girls spread a little holiday cheer as they presented  Why the Grinch Stole Christmas  to an audience of parents, volunteers and local police officers.

The play offered girls the opportunity to be strong by choreographing and performing dance numbers, smart by writing the script and reading the lines until they were memorized, and bold by designing and building the set and props, as well as courageously performing before a packed house. At Girls Inc., equipping girls for success is FUN!

We're proud of the girls for putting on a great show and we can't wait for the next production!
Taking time for girls
SHARING FOOD AND CELEBRATING THE GIRLS INC. STORY
Raejean Davis was excited to share her story with 45 guests at Girls Inc.'s October dinner at Cafe Society in Midtown.

"It's great how doors have been opened to me in the Eureka program," said Raejean. "After my internship at the Memphis Zoo, they said they have a spot for me whenever I'm ready to work. That was relieving because I never thought I'd get a job doing something that I like at a young age"
The four-course meal,  hosted by Chef Cullen Kent, included produce from our very own Youth Farm. It was a yummy way to share the Girls Inc. story with new and old friends alike.
Raejean was among six Girls Inc. girls who served dinner to the guests and shared personal stories about what Girls Inc. has meant to them. They each gained behind-the-scenes knowledge of the restaurant industry, were able to network with leaders in the community and strengthen their public speaking skills.
Yes - girls and bees can bee friends!
THE YOUTH FARM'S ALL ABUZZ
When local beekeeper  Louis Padgett paid a visit to the Girls Inc. Youth Farm, the girls he worked with were, understandably, a little hesitant.

"We're not going to go mess with them today, right?" one farmer asked.

All that passed once the bee-master got down to business. He spoke to the girls about everything from entrepreneurship to the importance of bees to the ecosystem - like the fact that honeybees are responsible for pollinating 1/3 of the food that is eaten worldwide.

Next the girls were guided in the process of building their own beehive, which will see its first bee residents next spring. With guidance from Louis and encouragement from each other, they went from girls who had  barely used a hammer to girls who loved using power tools and can't wait for their next carpentry project.

Then it was time to get to know some bees.
