Mitzvah Bathroom Baskets

At Mitzvah List, we LOVE getting questions from our email subscribers. This week we received an email from a mitzvah mom asking if she should provide a basket of toiletries in the bathroom for her guest. We say YES!!!!! If you've spent years planning and preparing for your special day, you should make sure that your guests are as comfortable as possible. Having little things like a sewing kit or dental floss may make a break a guest's night.

So what should you include in the basket? It is not necessary to put in everything, but the kitchen sink, but you should try include things that you guest may want and need. It's also important to keep in mind that lots of 12 and 13 year olds are going to have access to the basket. Make sure that you don't include items that can be too destructive or cause injuries. Here is what we suggest:

  • Sewing kit

  • Safety pins

  • Hairspray

  • Band aids

  • Tissues

  • Feminine products

  • Lint Brush

  • Stain remover like Tide to Go

  • Dental Floss

  • Nail Files

  • Nail Glue

  • Lotion

  • Bobby Pins

  • Gum, mints and breath spray

  • Mouthwash with mini cups

  • Nylons

  • Q-tips

  • Make-up remover

  • Clear nail polish

  • Nail polish remover

  • Combs and brushes

  • Individually wrapped packages of pain reliever

  • Individually wrapped packages of antacid tablets

One mitzvah mom shared a great idea! Instead of starting her bathroom baskets from scratch, a group of moms got together and decided to pass the bathroom baskets from family to family. After each family's mitzvah, they had to restock the basket and bring it to the next party. That way, it was one less thing for the mitzvah mom to worry about, the leftover toiletries were not wasted or thrown out and it saved a ton of money!
