Got a Job? 89% of 2014 NCNM Graduates Did
Good news for current students: nearly the entire NCNM Class of 2014, 89 percent of all class graduates are working in positions that utilize their degree training.

In addition, according to a report compiled by NCNM's Career Development & Alumni Services office, 90 percent of 2014's Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine graduates are employed in the healthcare industry, a figure that rises to 93 percent when added to ND grads who report they're engaged in "meaningful endeavors of choice."

The report, titled "Employment Outcomes for Spring 2014 Graduates-One Year Post Graduation," is also good news for Chinese medicine, research and certificate graduates. Eighty-eight percent of Masters of Oriental Medicine graduates and 83 percent of the Masters of Acupuncture graduates are working in health care.

Meanwhile, all four 2014 Master of Science in Integrative Medicine Research graduates are working in the field, while 100 percent of the Certificate of Natural Childbirth and Certificate of Shiatsu graduates (six and one respectively) are employed in the field.

Tafflyn Williams-Thomas , NCNM's career services manager, said the study was compiled from student self-reporting, faculty and staff updates, LinkedIn and Facebook, as well as online searches. Employment in the industry was defined as paid work that involved utilizing skills and credentials directly attributable to NCNM education. " I am thrilled to see that our programs provide our graduates with the skills they need to start their careers," said Williams-Thomas.

Campus News

Neighborhood Supports Hooker Street Plans
And a garden shall bloom...NCNM's plans to transform the campus portion of SW Hooker Street into extensive green space got a boost from the South Portland Neighborhood Association  recently. The association voted Dec. 2 to support NCNM's plans, an important step in the city's review process. Their vote was submitted to the city of Portland, which required 100 percent approval from SPNA for the request to remain in consideration.

"Vacating" the street means the city would cede jurisdiction to NCNM for the roughly two- block space between the Administration and Academic buildings.

Bob's Red Mill Scholarships: Jan. 1 is the deadline for students participating in the Bob's Red Mill Integrative Medicine Panel Scholarship Contest. Competitors need to create a three-minute video speech about a Bob's product. Finalists each earn a $4,000 scholarship. More info, contact Ester Tak.

Shop and Support NCNM: Now you can help your favorite medical school all year when shopping with Fred Meyer and Amazon. If you have a Fred's reward card, simply go to your account and type in "National College of Natural Medicine" as your community organization of choice. Each quarter the store will make a donation to the school based on the accumulated spending of NCNM-linked reward card holders. Details on the Fred Meyer website. Similarly, when you start your Amazon shopping at smile.amazon.com and designate NCNM, a portion comes back to the college.
