SAVE THE DATE: Healthy Aging Conference
Join the Alliance members at the United Way offices on November 6 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. to receive the latest research on seniors in the Lehigh Valley!  This report will be presented by Professor Lanethea Mathews-Schultz of the Lehigh Valley Research Consortium.  She was the lead researcher on this project and will be discussing the percent of seniors in the Lehigh Valley who are experiencing difficulties with activities of daily living (ADLs), instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) and chronic disease and falls.  This information is vital to grant writers and people developing programs for seniors.  Please contact Priscilla at [email protected] or by phone at 610-807-5731 to register.
Help us Spread the Word on MedReturn Boxes in Lehigh County
Do you have customers who reside in Lehigh County?  United Way Alliance on Aging encourages you to post this MedReturn Box flyer in your facility.  Permanent MedReturn boxes have been installed in 10 police departments across Lehigh County and are now available for  Lehigh County residents who have expired and unused over-the-counter and prescription medications.  Residents can use the boxes to safely and anonymously discard medications.  This important service helps to keep seniors safe by ensuring that they don't accidently take medicine that is expired or an old dosage.
Legislative Breakfast a Success
We are excited to have been a part of such a successful Legislative Breakfast!  The Public Policy Committee of Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of the Elderly (CARIE) of the Lehigh Valley held a Legislative Breakfast on Thursday, May 29th.  Guests included Brian Duke, the Secretary of Aging for Pennsylvania and members of the Pennsylvania legislature who represent the Lehigh Valley.  All were invited to talk about issues related to seniors and answer questions from the audience.

If you would like to get on the guest list for this event next year, please contact Vanessa at [email protected] or by phone at 215-545-5728 ext 3036.
