Great turnout for WPH's Lifelong Learning Week event: Competitive Edge, The Central Importance of Essential Skills to Canada's Economic Future
Over 60 people gathered on September 23/15 to hear Scott Murray, an essential skills expert, from DataAngel explain why government action is needed to increase the essential skills of the Canadian population.
Forty percent of the Canadian workforce possess skills below the literacy level demanded by their occupation. According to Murray, one of the ways that the government can solve the problem of essential skills shortages is to create financial incentives for firms to increase the knowledge and skill intensity of their jobs.
View Murray's findings by reading The Business Case for Investment in Essential Skills in Numbers, which is available at the DataAngel site.

Office bullying may be more common than many managers realize. According to recent research from staffing firm OfficeTeam, more than two in five (43%) of workers surveyed admitted they've had an office bully, yet the majority (63%) of human resources managers interviewed said they think workplace bullying never happens at their company. Another 25% think it rarely occurs.
