It is hard to believe that summer is over and the kids are back in school, summer vacation is a mere memory, and football season is under way. Where did the summer go? The weather was so unusual for Oklahoma throughout the season, it just doesn't seem like we really had a summer. I don't remember a time that the landscape stayed so green and not burned to a crisp. I must admit fall and spring are my favorite seasons of the year.

A Wake-Up Call on Caffeine
How does caffeine affect our bodies? 

Today in the US, 100 million people drink coffee every day with almost one-third drinking specialty beverages like lattes, cappuccinos and mochas at a cost of $18 billion a year. Of those who drink coffee, 60% say they must have a cup to start their day and 54% of the 100 million coffee drinkers say that coffee makes them feel "more like themselves."

The courts have determined the presence of drugs in urine does not provide information as to whether the individual is actually under the influence at any particular time. Likewise, a negative urine drug test cannot be the only factor in determining sobriety compliance.

Through the many tears that followed as I found my way from the airport to the campus, I assured myself this would be the first and last time I felt so vulnerable on this "pharmacy trip". Little did I know, the APhA Institute on Alcoholism & Drug Dependencies would take me on a journey, from which I would emerge transformed.
