Student Pick Up and Drop Off Locations
In the morning, student drop off will be along Sampson Street where students will be able to enter through the gate and main entrance.
Please drop your child off on the school side of the street so they do not have to cross through traffic.

In the afternoon, car pick up is along Jefferson Street only. Students must exit out the end of the sophomore hallway and meet their vehicle on Jefferson Steet. Students will not be allowed to cross Sampson Street to meet vehicles.
Visitor and Parent Parking
Parking for parents and visitors to our campus is parallel parking on Sampson Street.  The only entrance for visitors and parents is our main entrance on Sampson Street.  In order to meet safety and security needs all other doors will be locked.
Official ADA Time
Energy's official ADA time this year is
10:10 AM.
Please schedule your child's appointments so that he or she is back to school by 10:10 AM or leaves after 10:10 AM. We receive our funding based on attendance at this time. Funding allows us to provide more for your child!
Special Thanks

The current PBL in Ms. Baird's physics class challenged students to integrate  1D and 2D motion into developing a game for Special Olympic students. To prepare for their projects,  Ms. Baird's students volunteered at a Special Olympics bowling event to better understand the needs of the athletes they are currently creating modified sports equipment and games for. The students took part in the 14th annual Special Olympic bowling tournament. Energy students assisted the athletes throughout the event and most importantly, cheered the athletes on!  Energy student,  Giselle Guevara, said she felt very humbled by the opportunity to work with these outstanding athletes. " I learned what it is to experience true happiness no matter the situation. I appreciate the opportunity to work with these kids and Ms. Baird for organizing this project which allowed us the chance to meet them and their coaches." For student Roy Ramos this was a new experience, "helping the kids play the sport and watching them smile, laugh, and have fun made volunteering very enjoyable. Having this experience with these kids was an amazing experience." We cannot wait for these students to visit Energy in January and test our games!

Energy students kicked of Week of Code by participating in an Hour of Code today.  The Hour of Code initiative  is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries, with the hopes of exposing and exciting students about the opportunities available in coding!  Check our Facebook page this week for more pictures and details about Week of Code at Energy!
Student of the Week

Ms. Alexander has nominated one of her tenth grade robotics students as this week's Student of the Week. Noah Goff received a glowing recommendation from Ms. Alexander, "Noah has put in some incredible work in Robotics the past few weeks, both inside and outside of the classroom. He's stepped up as a leader and is successfully completing a very ambitious robot design. He comes in during lunch nearly every day to continue improving his design, putting in more than twice as many hours as the rest of his classmates. He's attended extra-curricular events with his robot design, and consulted with students from other teams and school (done in-the-field research) to determine how he can make his design the best. I'm very excited to see what Noah and his team will have finished by the end of the semester!"  Noah came to Energy because of his interest in robotics and computer programming. He was introduced to robotics at Clifton Middle School, but says he really thinks his interest started at a much younger age thanks to Legos. "I was always interested in building things, learning how they work, and taking things apart."  With dedicated students like Noah heading up our first year of robotics we know the program is off to a great start!

OTC Presenter Showcase
We are excited to announce that Energy Institute High School students have received a special invitation to participate as presenters at the 2016 Offshore Technology Conference!

This is an open call for all students interested in competing for one of three coveted presentation spots!  Students are encouraged to create teams of up to four students and develop a project and presentation that connects work you've done in the classroom, personal interests, or invention ideas to the Offshore Technology sector.  The requirements are vague to encourage your creativity.  Interested teams will be paired with an industry mentor who can help provide context and support as you prepare.

All teams will present their projects to a team of industry professionals for final judging!  If you are interested please see Mrs. MacGregor or Ms. Moon as soon as possible.  Deadlines and more details to come soon!
Final Exam Schedule
Semester final exams will start Tuesday December 15th and be completed by Friday, December 18th.

Students will have two finals a day except for Friday, they will just have their last one.  The first final will begin at 8:05 and end at 9:40.  The second will begin at 9:50 and end by 11:20.  During final exam week lunch will be served from 11:20 - 12:00. Students will not be allowed to spend their lunch outside and will be encouraged to attend tutorials offered during that time.  Buses will be dismissed by 12:05.  Cohorts will have different schedules regarding which finals will be given each day.  A personalized exam schedule will be sent home through cohort teachers next week.

Friday students will take their last exam and will have lunch until 10:45 when buses will be dismissed.

Remember, final exams are worth 20% of your semester grade so it is important to begin reviewing the semesters material now. Tutorials are offered daily throughout lunch, please take advantage of the extra time and support teachers are providing.

The Energy Converters would like to thank the faculty, students and parents for their donations to the Winter Warms drive. We were able to collect 79 articles of clothing to take to the Search Homeless Shelter for fellow Houstonians of all ages. We hope to continue serving our community with more service projects this school year.

Last Friday, the Energy Eagle Cohort had their very first International Day, where all groups presented aspects of culture from their countries. This was an English and world geography integrated project. Students presented great projects and were knowledgeable on all aspects of their selected country.
