ease in writing?
"Ease in writing" comes from a poem by Alexander Pope, the British poet:

True ease in writing comes from art, not chance,
As those move easiest who have learn'd to dance.

Note he (and I) didn't say "easy writing." But just as dance lessons can help get you around the floor more gracefully, the goal for this newsletter is to share a tip or two to improve your writing.

What do you need to know about in 2016?

Let me know! I will draw on my own knowledge and experience, or seek out an expert with tips to share.

And again, thank you for being part of a wonderful, extended community of people who love words and how they join together. May words become tools of peace in the new year.
Next Steps for Julia (and Me)

As I continue researching and writing about the life of Julia Wilbur and of Civil War Alexandria, I signed a contract with Potomac Books, an imprint of the University of Nebraska press. First draft due July 1, 2016!

I also have several presentations scheduled: On Feb. 6 at the Black History Museum in Alexandria and March 19 at the Surratt House in Clinton, MD.
