Greetings and blessings to you. We have so much good news and big events this summer! As you have hopefully seen, we are rejoicing about the Fifth Circuit's June 9th ruling upholding omnibus pro-life bill HB 2 (although we remain in fervent prayer as the bill's full enforcement remains stalled while abortion providers appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court). And here in our own backyard -- we have an even greater reason to celebrate. One of the three remaining abortion facilities in Dallas has CLOSED! Routh Street abortion facility's final day of abortions was June 13. They have sold the property and closed their doors forever. From a high of 13 abortion facilities in 1990 when Bishop Grahmann's "2nd Saturday Rosaries" began, we are now down to 2: the Southwestern abortion facility at Greenville and Royal and the mega Planned Parenthood on West Virginia Dr in South Dallas.

On Saturday, July 11, we will hold the services marking the closing of Routh Street, including:

  • Bilingual Mass of Thanksgiving celebrated by Father Jason Cargo at 9:00 a.m. at the Cathedral Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, followed by a Rosary Procession by bus to Routh Street abortion facility
  • Powerful Closing Memorial Service from 10:15-11:15 a.m. outside the now-closed Routh Street abortion facility, also led by Fr. Jason, with bilingual prayers, songs and testimonials. All are invited to bring flowers to lay at the site in remembrance of the thousands of innocents whose lives were taken.
  • Celebratory reception back at the Cathedral Grand Salon at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome!

Please spread the word about this important event. We especially would like anyone who has ever prayed outside Routh -- from the time of the first 2nd Saturday Rosaries in 1990, or at a Quarterly Rosary Procession, or during the Roe Memorial Rosaries and Jericho Walks around the facility from 2010-2013, or any time on your own or with a group -- to be a part of this historic occasion.  Click here for the flyer in English and in Spanish here. (A sample bulletin announcement for the event is located in the links to the left.)

Please be sure to mark your calendars for these additional events in July:

Also new this month:

Check out the new Gabriel's Trumpet Quotes for parish bulletins. Like our well-received Rachel's Corner Quotes offering hope and healing to those suffering from abortion, Gabriel's Trumpet Quotes offering resources and information for pregnant mothers in need will be a regular addition to this monthly mailer. Please share these with your bulletin secretary -- available in English here and in Spanish here.

And if you haven't already, be sure to visit (and share!) the CPLC's redesigned blog at prolifedallas.org/blog focusing on the summer journey of our amazing sidewalk counseling summer interns. Their experiences are nothing short of awe-inspiring. We are so lucky to have them!

Looking ahead, we have two special events in mid-August:

During the Remembrance Mass, a special blessing will be offered for parents of children lost before birth through miscarriage, stillbirth or abortion, as well as parents of children lost for any other reason after birth. Parents will also be invited to participate in a
white rose procession and to add their child(ren)'s name(s) to a
Book of Remembrance to be held in prayer by the Sisters of Life. (Participation in any aspect of the event is voluntary.)

Please be sure to share the information about this first Mass of its kind in the Diocese of Dallas with your fellow parishioners, especially those who might find solace at this event. Click here for the flyer in English and in Spanish here. (A sample bulletin announcement for the event is located in the links to the left.)

Finally, a note about the upcoming Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on July 16. She has a special meaning for me since my wife's middle name is Carmen after Our Lady. In the 12th century, hermits lived on Mount Carmel in northern Israel where they had a chapel dedicated to Mary. By the 13th century, they became known as the "Brothers of Mount Carmel." For centuries, the Carmelites have seen themselves as specially related to Mary. There is a tradition that Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock, a leader of the Carmelites, and gave him a scapular symbolizing Our Lady's special protection and calls the wearers to consecrate themselves to her in a special way. The scapular reminds us of the gospel call to prayer and penance. Let us ask Our Lady for her special intercession allowing us to promote the Culture of Life!

May God's blessings be upon you and your family, as you help to strengthen our commitment to the sanctity of life.

For Life,

P.S. I was so glad to see such a wonderful turnout at the annual CPLC Volunteer Appreciation Picnic! We were happy to give special congratulations to the parishes raising the most funds in the 2014-15 Baby Bank Campaign: St. Ann, Coppell, over $20,000, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Plano, over $16,000, and St. Gabriel, McKinney, over $15,000 (more outstanding parishes and schools listed here). Thanks to all the parishes that helped raise funds to support the cause of life!
