News & Notes - June 2015
THERE'S STILL TIME TO GIVE
Still waiting to make a gift? Our fiscal year is quickly drawing to a close, and the women at WIT need your support!

WIT strives to meet a woman's needs at every step of her struggle with domestic violence and/or substance abuse, from her first tentative call to the  LifeLine, to her individual sessions with a WIT counselor, and to her joining WIT's  peer support groups and community of Survivors.

June 30th is fast approaching. Your contribution can make all the difference in the lives of the nearly 4,000 women who reach out to WIT every year.

On June 8th, our Community Education & Training (CEAT) Coordinator, Zoe Nesin, co-hosted a workshop at the End AIDS 2015 Conference with Olivia Holdsworth of Congreso de Latinos Unidos.

Titled  Love Shouldn't Hurt: Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and HIV/AIDS, the workshop explored the recognized links between IPV, substance abuse and HIV/AIDS - including the fact that IPV and substance abuse both increase a woman's risks of contracting HIV - and  informed participants of how  chronic illness, such as HIV, can be used by abusers in order to maintain power and control over their victims.

The workshop also included safety planning for IPV survivors and identified the resources available to survivors with HIV and/or a history of substance abuse.

 #FathersDayPledgePA
On June 17th, WIT joined the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV) and her sister agencies at the Phillies v. Orioles ball game and, together with the Phillies, took a stand against domestic violence and sexual assault for the Father's Day Pledge to End Gender Violence campaign.
