Zoe Nesin (WIT) and Olivia Holdsworth (Congreso) |
On June 8th, our Community Education & Training (CEAT) Coordinator, Zoe Nesin, co-hosted a workshop at the End AIDS 2015 Conference with Olivia Holdsworth of Congreso de Latinos Unidos.
Titled
Love Shouldn't Hurt: Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and HIV/AIDS, the workshop explored the recognized links between IPV, substance abuse and HIV/AIDS
- including the fact that IPV and substance abuse both increase a woman's risks of contracting HIV - and
informed participants of how
chronic illness, such as HIV, can be used by abusers in order to maintain power and control over their victims.
The workshop also included safety planning for IPV survivors and identified the resources available to survivors with HIV and/or a history of substance abuse.
