Rep. Reynolds Releases Statement Regarding

Supreme Court Ruling on Gay Marriage

AUSTIN (June 26, 2015) -- Texas House Democratic Whip Ron Reynolds released the following statement today regarding the Supreme Court's ruling on gay marriage:

"Let me be clear, I'm a proud Christian family man that is married to my wife and have three children," said Rep. Reynolds. "With that being said, I support equality for all. As a past president of the Missouri City NAACP, I've been a longtime advocate of the civil rights movement and fierce advocate of social justice by fighting for racial and gender equality. In the past, my faith wouldn't allow me to support gay marriage. However, over recent years, I have evolved to also fight for equal rights for the LGBT community as well. I totally support the Supreme Court's decision today."

The Supreme Court in a historic 5-4 ruling said there is a right to same-sex marriage in all 50 states, delivering a monumental win for gay rights across the country. Justice Anthony Kennedy, often the swing vote on the court, authored the 34-page decision. He wrote that marriage is a "keystone of the nation's social order" and that there is "no difference between same- and opposite-sex couples with respect to this principle." Finally, every American regardless of their race, gender or gender identity has the right to marry the person they love.
