BGANZ is delighted to announce and congratulate the successful 14 recipients of the BGANZ Member 2015 Grants.

BGCI - Marsh Awards.

BGCI has announced the Marsh Awards for International Plant Conservation and Education in Botanic Gardens.

 

If you have in mind an inspirational early/mid-career botanic garden professional please do send us your recommendation!

Nominate an inspirational colleague who has contributed to plant conservation or education in botanic gardens for the Marsh awards.  

 

The award will acknowledge the individual's contribution and includes winning £1,000. Find the nomination forms and more information about the process at BGCI's website.

Research Project Update Soil Water Management of Trees

This event will provide an update from the findings of landscape water use research being conducted at the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Melbourne Gardens, with a specific focus on tree water use and the use of soil moisture sensing technology.

This project is a partnership between Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, University of Melbourne and Sentek Technologies.

The Deputy Director provides high level support to the Director, particularly in program management, strategic planning and policy development. 

 

The role deputises for the Director, including executing appropriate delegations and authority in his absence and representing the Director and Botanic Gardens at state, national and international forums as required.

 

The Deputy Director manages governance and support for the Board and strategic communications across the Botanic Gardens and Departmental senior management. 

 

The Deputy Director also manages the South Australian Seed Conservation Centre and provides high level managerial, botanical and horticultural input to development of the Botanic Gardens living collections policy and directions.

 

Special Conditions: 

*  Degree in Horticulture or Botany is desirable

*  May be required to participate in fire management and associated duties

*  Some out of hours work may be required

*  Some travel (inter and intra-state) may be required

*  A Certificate of Child Related Employment Screening is essential (for prescribed positions under the Children's Protection Act 1993).

2015 BGANZ Congress

 25 - 29 October 2015, Wollongong

The 7th biennial Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand (BGANZ) Congress will be held in the coastal city of Wollongong NSW from Sunday 25 October to Thursday 29 October 2015.

 

The 2015 congress theme 'Connecting with Communities' will highlight the many ways in which botanic gardens across Australia and New Zealand play an important role in the environments in which we live through partnerships, joint ventures, sharing, outreach work and advocacy.

 

The BGANZ Congress will enable botanic garden professionals an opportunity to come together, network and return to their respective gardens with new ideas and skills. This congress promises to deliver not only thought-provoking seminars, workshops and tours but will also have a strong focus on networking through a range of events.
