Future of 3D Printing in Medicine at the NJ Symposium for Biomaterials Science on November 9, 2015. Three-dimensional printing is an additive manufacturing technique that enables the fabrication of scaffolds and devices from medical imaging technologies such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imagery (MRI). The use of 3D printing in academia and industry has steadily increased over the past decade as the printers themselves become less expensive and more readily available. There seems to be an inevitability about 3D printing becoming a part of many fields, including biotechnology.
