Yes - Decoration Day is still on- Monday, May 25, but moved indoors to the WA Multi-Purpose Hall; same time of 6-8 p.m.

Monday, May 25 - Decoration Day is still on!

While the rains continue to pour and saturate the grounds at the IOOF Westlake Cemetery, it will not dampen our community's spirits as we will still gather together to honor those veterans, and their families, that have sacrificed so much for our freedom!  We also want to take a moment and thank our veterans that are still with us today, showing them our appreciation for their service too!

Please join us Monday, May 25 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., now at the Westlake Academy Multi-Purpose Hall just south of the cemetery at 2600 JT Ottinger Road, as we move indoors for this special event. We will still provide grilled hot dogs and ice cream, special music, and you will not want to miss our guest of honor and speaker Ret. Army Lieutenant General Rick Lynch.

Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Lynch has commanded at all levels of the Army, from company (100 soldiers) to corps (65,000 soldiers) to commander of all U.S. Army installations (120,000 civilian employees and soldiers worldwide). He spent a total of over thirty months in Iraq, including fifteen months as one of the leaders of the 2007 surge, and is now executive director of the University of Texas at Arlington Research Institute.  He and his wife of thirty years, Sarah, are our neighbors and live in Southlake's Timarron community. We are honored to welcome them to Westlake!

Come see why so many of our residents love this small town, old-fashioned family gathering to help us all pause and remember what Memorial Day is really all about.  We appreciate the Westlake Historical Preservation Society and Town Staff for keeping this tradition alive!

p.s.  Still interested in bringing your family's prized homemade ice cream?  We will need it and can't wait to try it!  Who knows - it may be the winning recipe!   Email WHPS Board Member Paula Thornton for more details.
