In this free P2P training entitled "Where Do We Go from Here: Preparing for Transition from High School," you will learn the keys to a successful transition is starting early, involving your child, and having a plan.

During this interactive presentation, you will participate in activities that will help your child move forward on his/her transition journey.  After the training, our trainer will follow-up to answer your questions and help you to apply the training content to your specific situation.  Because starting early is an important part of transition planning, this training is appropriate for parents of children of all ages.

Supporting Parent

Did you know that Parent to Parent of Georgia was founded over 30 years ago as a project of the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities?  We were asked to provide one-on-one emotional support to parents of children with developmental disabilities.  Since that time, our Supporting Parent Program continues to be a cornerstone service which serves all disabilities and special health care needs.  The lives of thousands of families have been touched thanks to our dedicated volunteers.

What can a volunteer
do in an hour?
By Karen Burns

A volunteer can assemble 10 packets of training material which will be distributed to 150 families across the state of Georgia.  Have computer skills?  You can create 8-10 flyers, using our P2P template, for our training events. In an hour you can invite a group of friends to attend a training that's on our calendar or consider hosting it yourself in your home or public library.

If that's not your cup of tea, you can make some calls to encourage organizations in your area to host P2P trainings.  Special needs programs provided by religious organizations, civic & disability organizations, and public or private schools (pre-K and up) may not know about our free training services that could benefit families in your area!  In one hour, you can help us reach more families within your community and across the state of Georgia.

Get started now by contacting Karen Burns, our Training Manager, at 678-736-7322 or [email protected]!
We interviewed Emelina, a P2P Supporting Parent, about what it means to be a Supporting Parent.

Emelina, thank you for your time and support!

Welcome

I've been involved with Parent to Parent of Georgia for over 15 years! It all started in 1998 at the International Parent to Parent Conference in Atlanta, 2 years after I moved here. I met another parent there that I'm still in touch with to this day! P2P gave me a social life & a network of support like I never had before.
