November 19, Lecture by Janice L. Tuchman
Thursday, November 19
5:30-6:30pm
BESC 180
Title:
"From Dream to Reality: Engineering Technologies Now and When?
"
In this talk, Tuchman will explore how fast new products and techniques like drones and 3D printing have become real-world tools-for good reasons-today. Then we will fast-forward to other technologies that might emerge in the next 10 years from nanotech materials to robots that can drill holes and install conduit overhead. Will artificial intelligences put engineers out of work or free them to be more creative?
This event is free and open to all. Reception to follow.

Interviewer Needed
CU Engineering Education alumna and friend of the EDC program, Dr. Lauren Cooper, is searching for a short-term research assistant (about 15 hours total) to conduct interviews.
She is finishing up a research study at Colorado School of Mines (in Golden, CO) and is looking for some help to help her conduct some interviews. The research topic is engineering education.
The pay is $15/hr, and she estimates about 15 hrs of work. Ideally she'd like to finish the interviews this semester, but isn't sure that is entirely feasible, because she'll need to train the student. Most likely that means that she'll need the assistance first thing when school is back in session, which for CSM is usually around January 7. The interviews would span about 2-3 days and would be located at CSM.
If you are interested in the position, please contact her directly for details.

Morning Session: 7:15 - 11:15
Freshmen physics students have been working with students in Tanzania, Africa on designing renewable energy sources for their school. Students have been studying energy transfer and are particularly designing solar, wind, hydro, and kinetic solutions. Each team will have approximately 5 minutes to present their solutions and proofs of concept. The presentation style is Cafe which looks like a science fair. We will be having different teams of students rotating into the presentation arena every 20 min.
We are looking for professionals with the following expertise: physicists, electricians, energy resource professionals, renewable energy business professionals, those somewhat knowledgeable with the area, etc.
