Pete the Cat takes up permanent residence

Thanks to the generosity of Horton's Books and Gifts of Carrollton, each kindergartner at Carrollton Elementary School received a free book as part of a drive to promote childhood literacy.  "Pete the Cat: Too Cool for School," by New York Times best-selling author James Dean, is part of the "My First I Can Read" series.  The books are being funded through the bookstore's Chloe Fund, a literacy program founded by Horton's in 2012.

Christmas program
sponsors needed
The Carrollton City School System is looking for sponsors for this year's Christmas program to help needy families. Last year, sponsors ensured a wonderful Christmas for more than 800 children.

Sponsors will receive profiles of their assigned families that include parents' names, children's names, ages, sizes and special wants and needs. Social workers and counselors have screened these families and found them to be in need of assistance.

Sponsor forms and more information are available on the school system's website. Sponsor forms need to be returned to Carrollton Middle School, 151 Tom Reeve Dr., by Monday, Nov. 16.

For more information, contact Ryan Scroggin at CMS at 770-830-0997 Ext. 1717, or e-mail him at [email protected].

Early voting under way
for SPLOST referendum
Voters in Carroll County will go to the polls to cast their ballots on the continuation of a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for education. SPLOST has been overwhelmingly approved four times previously, creating a funding mechanism that allows school systems to build and upgrade facilities without raising property taxes.

Early voting is now under way through Friday, Oct. 30, at the Carroll County Elections office on College Street from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The ballot also includes municipal elections. Once early voting closes, voters will need to go to their residential polling locations to cast their ballots on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The major project for Carrollton City Schools is to replace the 50-plus-year-old Carrollton High School. The new CHS will offer the region's finest in educational opportunities for all students. Phase One will be available for students at the start of the 2017 school year. Click here to read more.
Red Ribbon Week walk on the Greenbelt

Many of our students went on a anti-drug/bully walk on the Green Belt Oct. 22 as part of Red Ribbon Week. There were lots of informative signs along the way to help the kids understand the dangers of drugs and bullying. Click here  to see more photos on our Facebook page!
